The OTHER Kevin in San Diego

Built a Dumas Hot Shot IV about 20 years ago and about 18 years ago,
stripped it down to bare wood to refinish/rebuild it. I recently dug
it out of storage and other than a nice coat of dust, the hull is
still in great shape and I've got the itch to get it pond worthy
again..
When I built it, I applied a couple coats of resin to the hull before
I painted it (Sorry, don't remember if it was polyester or epoxy
resin) and I assume I'll need to do so again. I'm not looking forward
to it as I recall it being a messy job that required a lot of sanding
afterwards...
Is there something I can use instead of resin? I assume the wood
grain is filled as the hull was just sanded bare but I want to make
sure I get a good smooth surface for paint. As it's a nitro powered
boat, it's got to be fuel proof as well. Would epoxy enamel provide a
water/fuel proof finish? I can spray that easily and get a nice
smooth finish in a fraction of the time the resin would take...
Is there a FAQ somewhere I can review?
Thx!
