I'm using some carbon rods and tubes as wing joiners on my current build. My question is simply, what is the prefered method of cutting this stuff and what glue works best on it? Do I rough up the surface to be glued or will this compromise the strength of the fiber?
Thanks

Depending how thick the carbon is I use 2 methods. For small stuff a Dremel diamond cutting wheel.
For big stuff a masonry blade. I use one on a small table saw. Cut them with breathing protection. Carbon dust is bad for your health. A good metal band saw bad will work but will dull real fast

Yes, rough up the surface, then use epoxy glue.

Another thing when dremel-cutting CF--wrap the area to be cut in masking tape. This works well to prevent splitting and gives a nice clean cut edge.
I roughen the CF tubes before gluing but be careful not to use sandpaper that's too rough. Just enough to give it a "matte" finish.

After sanding wipe the carbon down with acetone or lacquer thinner also.

Be sure to wear a surgical mask (or at least a bandana) and eye protection when cutting CF. It is NOT good for either your lungs or your eyes.

Thanks guys,
I made the cuts with a Dremel Cut Off Wheel. No problems but this stuff sure is messy. Next time I'll do it outside. I roughed up the outter surface before gluing and did a test glue with medium CA glued to hard balsa. When pulled appart, the balsa failed first so I guess CA works well too.
