March 7, 2006, RCAPA attended the RTCA SC-203 meeting held at the Northrop Grumman facility in Dallas, TX. In attendance was several representatives from the UAV Industry, RCAPA, AOPA, Military, MITRE, and the FAA.
Myron and Gene ( www.rpflightsystems.com ) answered many questions about qualifications, operations, safety, and everything else under the sun. The direct conversation between the SC-203 and RCAPA provided the SC-203 a valuable insight into typical RCAPA operations, aircraft, and common practices. We also gained a better understanding of what is being looked at and evaluated for future regulation. Myron and Gene were in the "hot seat" for a good while and represented us very well.
After the lunch break, the RCAPA guidelines were presented and discussed. The guidelines were recognized as a very good start and covered many things that the SC-203 and FAA were interested in. RCAPA has been asked, and will continue working the regulatory/guidance issue with the RTCA SC-203.
I extend my thanks to the members past and present that contributed to the RCAPA Guidance process, and a special thanks to Myron and Gene for taking the time, effort, and funds required to attend the meeting on our behalf.
The RCAPA is providing a voice for the RCAP community. Our involvement is providing a positive influence on the process and we are making a difference.
