GWS Cub
pixie7p, 340Mah Kokam Lipo, Naros and R700rx
Verbatim 5in1 Onboard
Motor cut out after just a few yards.
My custom undercarriage didn't fare too well either.

Ouch! What did it all weigh? I assume the verbatum is a video camera?
You dont really need landing gear anyway. As for the motor cut, does the camera have it's own power? Maybe you overamped the battery or esc in any case.

Around 270grams I think with the camera.
The Verbatim 5in1 camera is a self powered usb pendrive type and weighs about 30 grams so not a major heavy weight.
Not sure about the cut-out...I suspect the ESC reset from interference...I was flying in the shadow of a cell site so that probably didn't help. I've read that the brushless CC ESC's are particularly prone to this so I suspect the little pixie brushed esc might be the same.
I'll try a torroid on the ESC wire while I wait for a glitch reducer to arrive.....I also have a gws esc that will slot in nicely.

The landing gear is easy to straighten up once I pulled off the broken balsa but yeah its better off landing on its belly as apart from that there was no damage.

Hey HB!

Care to discuss the 5in1 a bit?

I just bought one and it is enroute to me.
Can you say if there are any bad things about it? Problems?
What format ext. are the pictures and vidoes?
What software do you use to convert to pc friendly format? Looks like maybe Pinnacle Studio?

How long do you have to charge it on the pc usb before use?

Thanks,

Reno.

Read this review of the eDVR camera.

http://www.dansdata.com/edvr.htm

Tells you everything you'd want to know. It also links to a converter which works better than the software that comes with it. I never installed the disk that came with it.

I'm having a blast with mine. Here's my very first video on a way to windy day.

I use Windows movie maker to edit the videos. I'm sure there is better editing software out there but WMM came with XP and works well enough for me.

Thanks Mike!

Great link and video! I don't have a video program yet. I was thinking Premiere or Pinnacle but I'll prolly just use the free one for now.

Did you convert your downloads to AVI, MPEG, or WMV's?

Wish there was a way to get rid of the suns glare. Fly early in the morning I guess...

Thanks.

I used avicreate.exe to convert from camera format (.stj) to .avi. Available here. http://www.st.com/stonline/products/applications/consumer/cmos_imaging/processors/674_nms_sw.htm

Then I used Windows Movie Maker to edit and save as .wmv. I don't have any experience with other editing software. This one came with XP and it's not important enough to me to justify paying for anything else.

Nice video Mike.

yeah the s/w that comes with the 5in1 converts the proprietry .stj file to wmv encoded .asf but its a bit of a cheat because this conversion process actually expands the output to 640x480 from the camera's actual resolution of 320x240. If you use avicreate as Mike does you get a direct conversion from .stj to .avi but at the source resolution of 320x240. The point is though that you get a more useable format in an .avi file.
I use ulead videostudio9 but only because I haven't got windows moviemaker. Ulead works but is a bit of a pain sometimes.....freezing up and generally being annoying.
I have had a few problems with my 5in1, files getting corrupted, video's getting cut short. I've found that if you format it before you start a video you're more likely to get a successful full length video. I also think that maybe sometimes it is affected by vibration somehow as I've never had a problem making full length videos unless its mounted on a plane or heli in flight. 'Tis weird but maybe its just mine.

Edit: Also...It charges in 2 hours when connected to the usb port. There is a little LiPo inside...see look....
