Hello everybody.

I am taking an aircraft maintenance course, and I just found out that when I do my composites section, I will be making a project out of carbon fiber.
I spoke with my instructor, and he said it would be alright if I make something other then the standard project. All my experience is in wood builds, (4 of them) and I ordered a 3m Bird of time kit about a week ago, so I'm thinking maybe something for that.

So the point of this post, is to ask what you would choose to make. I have no idea really what my options are, how hard/possible would it be for me to construct some wings, fuse, anything else?

I appreciate any help, and I promise to take some pictures and log my build when I start for anyone who wants to see,

If you wanted to build a pod and boom model, you could make a boom from CF. Or if you wanted to build a "Bird of the Future" you could lay up your CF spars.

Go for a full length carbon fiber spar, good examples, at CST's web site.

The carbon you are going to use is probably pre-preg.. Funny, one of my maintenance instructors gave me a 50 yard by 48" roll, and all I could find to do with it is unroll it in my apartment's parking lot. Quite humorous actually!

It is easy to build a fuselage. See:
http://www.favonius.com/soaring/lost_foam/lost_foam.htm
Skinny down the fat part and build up the skinny part so CARBON BRAIDED SLEEVE fits. See:
http://www.cstsales.com/carbon_fiber-ss3.html
Carbon Braided Sleeve, 1.5" Dia., 1-9 ft.
4.71" Circ., 0.36 oz./ft., 3k. Price per foot when ordering 1-9 ft. C9351
Maximum Dia. of 1.95" (6.123" Circ.) and minimum Dia. of 1.05" (3.3" Circ.), +/-30%.
The radio equipment will fit inside the max. 6.123" Circ.
