Well, since nobody else has any problems with Hitec stuff, I'll ask something:

Can you confirm the CG location of the Sky Scooter?

Oh, and where's my hat for suggesting the rudder-to-rudder pmix trick to have elevons on a 4-channel receiver? ;)

Mike, some are reporting higher failure rate of Hitec servos lately in their Heli's.Some are upgrading to other brands.

I have had 1 HS225 go bad right out of the box, but that is it.

Has there been a QQ issue, or is it just a fluke?

Mike,

Been wondering if the Eclipse radio has the capability of mixing elevator with throttle? Also, is the Spectra frequency module interchangeable between the Prism and Eclipse? Thanks

Hi Mike, Since servo volumn control is not provided on the Flash and Eclipse transmitters. With mix on, how can you adjust say only elevator throw and not effect aileron or rudder throw? Am I missing something?
Thanks

Mike,

Where do I send stuff into for repair from Canada? I have a couple of receivers and some servos that have been subjected to some stress that I need checking out before using them again.

Dave.

mkirsch1- 4.25-4.5"

Fred- What is your data source. The key is to use the proper tool for the job.

mcallahan- You could use one of the P-mixes or you might consider using a flight condition mode if all you need is a different trim under climb out on a powered glider. Yes, the modules are the same.

Bob H- You can mix the % of each surface that you want in the mixing menus. I'm still a little confused with your statement. You might want to call us.

Mike.

Hi Mike,

Noticed the new HS-125MG on the Hitec web site. What's the ETA on these? I've been running two sets of the 5125s and I love'm but for most applications they are overkill. Where would you expect the 125s to fit pricing wise in comparison with your other servos?

Is it possible to send in a SuperSlim just to have it 'checked out'? I drilled a plane into the ground recently and would hate for it to create any future problems.

Just want to say I love the product line. I fly the Eclispe w/Spectra and Hitec flight packs in all my planes. I'm sure most of these wishlist issues have been stated before, but here's mine:

1. Bigger battery with the Eclipse
2. More model memory (I'm full, with 5 more to build!)
3. Another proportional channel or two. I'd like to be able to tie one to an on/off switch for throttle when in 4-servo glider mode.
4. 3 way 'any function' addressable switches...
5. Change the 'model select' method. It would be nice not require the power on/off. And display the model name.
6. Dual servo ailerons, second channel assignable to channel 5 to use 555 Rx.

Thanks for the great products!

Terry

this is a question that should probably be self explainatory but has confused me. In another post there is a discussion on Exponential. This is a feature that I was unaware of. (actually I Knew that my radio had it but didn't know what it did.) Exponential is expressed in a percent. What is the percent of? I know that this sounds like a vague question but that is how my knowledge on this subject is. Also can you tell me who sells TX straps on line? I looked all over SEFF for one and nobody had them. Thanks for providing this thread online, it is great that the suppliers of the hobby take such an interest in their customers. I have bought nothing but Hitec since starting in this hobby almost 2 years ago.

Hiya Mike,
Moving to South East Asia soon, where is the nearest Hitec service center there? Will be doing a lot of flying since the wind is always slow, so I forsee the need for maintanence. Thanks.

I have a hitec flash 5. Zagi model one. Seven channel slim rx. Turned on tx, throttle was switched to elevator and elevator to throttle. Elevon mix not working. Switched to model five, setup ala zagi, flew fine. reset one, zagi, works. What happened? Flying bandit on two. Shifting range,20 to 60, ant down. Checked rx, wires,everything-except transmitter. Flies good, then erratic.Crash. Only suspect left-tran. Thanks for the help.

Forgive me if this has been covered before, but how does one program the Eclipse to get aileron differential on a plane with elevons? Is this possible? (Not that I necessarily take your word any longer for what is possible with the Eclipse :D :D )

Hi Mike

I have a 2 month old CG 340 charger thats just broken!

All the LED's light up as normal. When I press the charge button the green LED comes on but switches off after a few seconds...

Do you have any idea what happened to it and can it be repaired/replaced?

Thanks

Quick question. Dropped my Tx in the driveway this AM (Focus III FM) on the way to the flying field. Now it's dead!!!(My fault Grrrrrrr)
Are there any repair centres here in the frozen north (Canada)or do I have to send it to you in Poway? (By the way its 36'C./94'F. right now)

Mike,
I posted this in V 15.0 before I realized there was a V 16.0.

My son has a Flash 4X that I purchased used here on ezone (I have a Flash 5X), and I am having problems with settings for model #1. My son is flying only 3 channel planes for now. When I plug everything into a receiver (he has a feather and 2 GWS R4P's) then elevator is on the throttle stick, rudder is where it is supposed to be, and the throttle doesn't work. This only occurs in model position 1 and I have tried the reset command to no avail. Right now he only has three planes, in positions 2,3 and 4, but do you have any suggestions for reseting position 1 to the factory settings?
Thanks,
Eric

Hi folks I'm driving this back to the top. Mike, it seems we still have new posting in the last thread (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44986&perpage=15&pagenumber=6) . Hopefully the admin will lock the previous version to keep the confusion down...

Mike,

One would think it would make sense to see the model name first when you turn on your Eclipse 7.

Is there a fix??

Also you should be able to use proportional throttle control in Glider mode.

Anyone have any info on how to fix these problems?

Other than a few things like this I love the Eclipse 7!!!

Thanks for your input on this forum. I have learned a lot by just reading the questions posted and then your replies.

Mike,

I have a 555 receiver which I purchased 18 months ago. Initially, the receiver failed to work with my transmitter (Multiplex Cockpit MM) so I sent it to have it repaired. It came back promptly and I put it aside until I would need it for another project.

I finished a Zagi and installed the above receiver and upon a range check with a fully extended antena the receiver would fail to work after 20 meters. Anything closer was OK. Should I send the receiver back again to Hitec or should I forget about it and write it off as a loss?

This is the only 555 receiver I've had problems with .

Cheers.

Help me, Mikey-wan Kenobi! You're my only hope!

(In this thread, anyway)

I recently bought some used gear, including a Focus 4 transmitter. The tag on the plastic crystal cover thingie says CH22, but the crystal turns out to be a Hitec ch 17 dc rx type, and the guy who sold me the radio (on behalf of a friend who has moved out of the country) can't seem to locate the ch 22 tx xtal,

so,

if I happened to come across a Hitec ch 22 tx (72MHz) crystal, is it your opinion that the radio should be sent to be retuned, or would I just plug it in and go?

BTW, this is the first RC radio I've owned in a couple of decades, and I can't get it to do anything useful because I don't have a tx crystal.
And no, the crystal isn't in the receiver, but I do have an extra crystal (came everthing else), with no paper tag, labeled "14.446H KDS 4M." Any idea if this is a Hitec part?

Mike....

I have a Flash 5 that I've had for several years... it is on channel 20, and I am having a problem using ANY microprocessor controlled safe-starting ESC. Meaning, any ESC that requires the throttle stick to be here for x seconds or moved here then there, does not work for me.

Is it possible that the radio needs to be re-tuned? If so, how do I go about getting that done and what sort of time frame are we looking at (it's my only tx, don't want to spend much time without it)...

As supporting data of sort, sometimes I can turn on a plane and the tx, and get constant servo chatter, sometimes it's fine, sometimes I move the sticks and let them re-center and the chatter goes away..

Thanks
Paul

Lately, when I put a battery on charge and adjust the charge rate, I have trouble getting the charge rate to stabilize at a particular number. The display is constantly jumping up and down. Also, as I adjust the rate upward, it will jump from a low value to some much higher value. Can't get it to adjust smoothly.

I have a Flash 5 I'm using on a Mini Tornado. I'd like to adjust the endpoints but it seems endpoint adjustment doesn't work with elevon mixing. If I adjust channel 1 it changes the right elevon in relation to up and down, if I adjust channel 2 it changes the left elevon in relation to right left.
What I'd like to do is remove some of the movement on both elevons for climbing and add some movement towards descending. In other words, I'd like to do tighter inverted loops.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Johnny:

In the absence of Mike (who must be enjoying a well-deserved vacation), I can give you a partial answer to your question.

The only way I've found to adjust the elevator function of elevons seperately from the aileron function with the Flash 5 is to use dual rates. In other words, you can have different end points on the elevator than the ailerons simply by dialing in a dual rate for the elevator. However, this will won't enable you to do exactly what you're trying to do since you won't be able to get different end points for up and down. Sorry, that's the best I can do. Maybe someone else has a better idea.

Thanks, that's what I've ben doing but it really isn't exactly what I'm looking for. What I really want is more elevator down throw. I don't mind if I'm adjusting aileron movement as long as I'm doing it on both elevons at the same time. As it stands now I can only adjust elevator on the right elevon and aileron on the left. It's like the transmitter doesn't know it's mixing. The E.P.A. acts as if one servo is handeling elevator and another is handeling rudder or aileron. Of course while mixing, both are handeling both.
Another way to attack it might be:
is there a way to adjust trim without it changing the endpoints? If I take the reflex out of the elevons (so they are flat with the wing) I get all the movement I want but I have to constantly pull back on the stick to fly level. By adding trim for level flight I automatically move the endpoints away from where I want them.
I'll stop typing now because I think I'm confusing myself as well as anyone who might be reading this.
Thanks again!
Mike, enjoy the vaca!

You can't buy new Hitec transmitter crystals in the USA, and any used ones should be regarded as suspect. FCC regulations are a bit vague, but it is illegal for end-users to make modifications to transmitters, including changing the frequency crystal, unless it is in a "user-replaceable module." FCC officials and the AMA both claim that a crystal, even if it's externally accessible, is NOT a user-replaceable module.

You will need to send your transmitter in to Hitec to have the crystal changed, and to have it retuned to the new channel. Frankly, if the crystal has been changed by someone other than a Hitec service technician, I'd send the radio in to have it checked out anyway.

As for that receiver crystal, I would just buy a new one. They're only $8 from www.servocity.com.

That seems pretty retarded to me. Are you sure there's not something wrong with the radio?

Here's another way to attack the problem: Mechanically. It's how they did it before fancy computer radios.

If your servos are on the top of the wing, install the servo arms so they're swept forward about 15 degrees when the servo is centered. Readjust the pushrods so you get the proper reflex in your elevons. What you're doing is building in some mechanical differential so your down elevon travel is greater than your up elevon travel. You can adjust the sweep of the servo arms to increase or decrease the differential. Sweep the arms backward if the servos are on the bottom of the wing.

Hi Mike, I have another one...I have Flash 5 that run down to 9.4 volts in under an hour. at full charge it reads 10.7v on the transmitter and if tested on a multimeter it reads 11.4 or 11.5v. I can run my flash 4 for 3 hours and still have more juice to fly, I tried all 3 transmitter batteries I have and all will read a lower charge and start beeping @ 9.4v and the battery really has 10.0v or more in it, but it just keep beeping...should I send it in or is there something I can do to fix it.

thanks for your constant support.

I think Mike went AWOL :) Just so you know, I don't work for Hitec, and don't represent them in any way, shape, or form. Any tips I give are from my own practical experience in R/C, and I receive no compensation from Hitec (unless Mike sees fit to give me that hat).

Vinnya42: Since I highly doubt that there's a "don't use the battery so fast" button inside your transmitter, I would at least contact Hitec tech support directly. They'll probably want you to send it in to have it looked at. Either the circuitry that reads the voltage is fubar, or there's a nasty short circuit inside that's draining the battery. Regardless, unless you're an electronics whiz, you probably can't fix it yourself. If you were an electronics whiz, you probably wouldn't be asking the question...

Andy W: I was eyeballing the HS125s myself. From past experience, Hitec digital servos are designated with a 4-digit model number that starts with a 5. The digital version of the HS125 is the HS5125. As far as pricing, Hitec doesn't sell direct AFAIK, so you can go somewhere like http://www.servocity.com and look up the price.

Jul 26, 2002, 12:00 AM
mkirsch1 is correct. The HS-125 is the analog version of the HS-5125 (share the same case). I've got 4 of the 5125s and I luv'em but can't justify the extra expense for all applications. ServoCity does have them listed but you have to do some digging down to the Great Deals (http://www.servocity.com/Products/GREAT_DEALS_PAGE_/great_deals_page_.html) page...

Sorry - this might be an obvious question, but I want to be sure I got this right. I've just starting flying a glow powered plane, and my instructor reset my controls on our new plane to reduce sensitivity. I had started with EPA, and dialed this back so as to get the control surface throws recommended in the manual for our new plane. Then I used DR to further reduce the throws, until we get our skills up. Our instructor reset EPA to 100%, then used DR to reduce the throws for both switch positions.

Who was right - should dual rates be 100% in one position, and reduced (say 50%) in the other, and EPA used to limit the control surface movement in the 100% DR setting? Or, should we forget about EPA and just use dual rate settings for both switch positions? (or doesn't it matter?)

Hope this question makes sense.

Hi Mike,
I have a hitec 340 charger, and have been happy with it.
On the hitec web site, it says that the 340 has an "Adjustable NiCd Trickle charge", but I can't find anything about that in the instructions.

Does the trickle charge change with the "main" charge rate? How many mA is the trickle charge?

Thanks,

I just bought a Flash 5 for my first radio set. Is there a way to recenter the servos? It only seems repositioning the gear works. I'm not referring to EPA.

Using a flash 5x and a 555 receiver......

I want to use V-tail mode on an flying wing. This is so that I can use the flap switch as a pseudo-preset trim adjustment for launching, cruising and full throttle.

I can't get it to work. I've tried channel 1&2, 1&5. 2&5 and 1&4 on V-tail mode with 100% aileron to rudder mix but all I get is aileron movement (tx channel 1) and no elevator (on tx channel 2)! How do I get elevator control on Vtail mode?

Does Vtail mode actually allow for elevator control on channel 2 using the same servos for aileron?

Your help requested.

Bruce,

I have a Feather RX that I use with an ESC with a BEC, plugged into CH4, have never had any problems with it. The only reason I can think of for the RX to be damaged is the BEC connector being plugged into the RX with the polarity reversed. However I have even done this with my Feather and it was not damaged. Just plugged the connector in the right way and it started working.

Just one man's experience with this RX.
