Hello all,
I am flying simulators right now, but am getting close to the hovering stages. My questions are as follows:
1) In RealFlight G2 sim. there is a trainer heli called Impala. IS this ficticious or a real model somewhere...I cant find it for sale anywhere.
2) There is one helo which cought my eye. Quick 30. I like the solid frame and components (on the Pro version there is more metal instead of plastic). Is this a good one to start/learn/crash with? (It seems to me that it would be built durable so that there is a higher survivability factor here)
3) what are the basic tools needed to get a helo in the air and maintain? (eg. starter, pliers, etc)
Thanks a bunch!

Check out HeliProz.com, they have a review on the quick 30. I am getting ready to buy one now too. I started with a Nexus 30 and would not recommend that to anybody. I never crashed it, but let me tell you that heap of plastic will tear it's self apart for you. Anyway I want something more sturdy and I am thinking that the Quick 30 is the way to go. I hope to buy my sometime in July.
Also give HeliProz a call, they are super friendly and will help you out a lot. Their prices are super fair and shipping is free on most orders. I call when ever I need help that I know I can get a quick answer to.
Good luck,
Bill

I would recommend you buy a Cheap but good flying heli for your first heli. That way if and when you crash it parts will be cheap. I see guys jump right in to an expensive heli and then have a accident and don't want to spend the money to fix it resulting in getting out of the hobby. My take on aluminum and metal is when you crash instead of replacing cheap plastic parts you will just be replacing more expensive twisted metal!
Now I won't recommend a heli to you because people will just say I am wrong but I can tell you what I started with.
1. G2
2. LMH 110, learned to hover and do foward flight with it!
3. Shuttle ZTS, perfect beginner heli.
4. Raptor 30, with a little work to make it perfect it flies great, I wish I bought this one first.
All of these are cheap to fix. Then again if you have deep pockets buy ahat ever you like and most of all take your time and have fun!

I have a Nexus 30, which has seen the end of my flying days with it. I have never crashed it, but I have come close, but mostly due to a nut on the tail that keeps coming loose. Anyway, I am seeing how a cheap heli will trear it's self apart. It was good enought to get me hovering, nose in, tail in and side on. I can also fly basic patterns with ease with it. Therefore it was not a total waste, but I know it's only a matter of time until that thing comes apart because of something else. I guess I am looking for a good second heli now, something that is stronger, flys smoother and that does not have all the slop. The Nexus did not have ball links and it's really loose. I want something that is tight and will respond when I want it to. Toward the end of my flying the Nexus I have gotten to the point where I feel like I am asking it to do something, it's sloooooow about getting to it. I know that I am finally flying it and not the other way around and so now I want a better heli. I have just parked the Nexus, it's still flyable, I am just not happy with that tail rotor and just wondering what the next part to come apart in flight would be so I am waiting a bit until I can buy a much better second heli.
Any ideas on a good second heli, one that's going to get me into 3D with out a lot of upgrades? I like the look of the Quick 30 Pro, and at $400 it seems like a fair price, but a lot of the reviews on it are less than glowing. But mostly directed at the owners, not the heli it's self. I also have looked a little at the Shuttle, but have just started looking at it. It's my goal to pull my .32 out of my nexus as well as some if not all of my radio gear out and put that in the new bird. Though I will probably upgrade the tail servo to a digital one.
Those are my thoughts, if anybody else has some more thoughts about a GOOD second heli for @ or below $500 or so I am game. I want to stay in the .30 size for storage and other reasons, also I can move mine over to it too.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill I have a shuttle and a Raptor and I know all the bad rap the Raptor gets but for the money you can't beat it. It fly's so much different than my Shuttle. The controls fell more wild than mild like they are on the shuttle. Don't get me wrong the shuttle is a well biult machine but to me they are for a beginner. I would recommend either a Raptor, a Sceadu or a JR Venture. With a little bit of time and work the Raptor fly's great.

I too AM flying the Nexus. Yes it is fully upgraded. It flies very well. Loops, rolls, flips, and just easy flying. The plastic balls on the heli wear out way to fast. It can get sooooooo sloppy that it is hard to fly. I also have a Raptor. It too has a few problems but they have been talked about already. For cast and easy to get parts go with the Raptor or Shuttle.
The Quick LOOKS good until you bury it in the dirt. Yes you will bury it sooner or later. A serious crash with a plastic heli, Nexus, Raptor will setup back a $100.00. The quick will be more then a new Raptor kit.
My opinion only.
