Hello, I'm on a mission of sorts. This may seem like a strange request but I will post it anyway. I'm looking for old kits my Father used to sell back in the eighties. His name was Douglas Brueshaber and he raced in a long extinct class called Quarter Midget. I believe the engine size used in this class was a .15 size and he designed and sold kits constructed of fiberglass with a foam wing. The name of his company was Doug-glass. I am starting to build r/c planes now some 20 years after his passing and was wondering if anyone knows of, or actually has any of his kits laying around collecting dust. If I remember correctly the names of his kits were Shark, Napier Heston, Sting Ray, and Deja-vu. I also remember him flying in a class called Formula One, but I don't know for sure what planes he raced. I think the Shark was the only one, but I could be wrong. Now that I am older the full impact of declining his offers to go fly with him so I could hang out with my friends is now hitting me. I know I'm a little late, but I would like the opportunity to "go fly with him" and this is the closest I will ever get. Sorry for the long post, but if anyone can help please let me know.
Thanks,
Wallace

I know that Flair (in England) produced a "Shark" and it was for .40 engines. I saw one at a local shop, recently, but it is not on their website now. Matney Models sells a "Napier Heston" but it is also for .40s.
I know a couple of pylon specific places . Maybe you could ask there. Anyway, let us know if you find anything useful.

I am wondering if he raced further back than initially imagined? I have a couple of the DeBolt designs once used in A.M.A. racing, which was an event that was popular just before the multi-launch Pylon racing series began in middle 1960's.
The rules were such that only .19 and .15 were legal engines. The model had to represent a REAL model, and could not be just based upon imagination, and thus smaller replicas of 1/4 migets became popular. Jerry Nelson was all for this, and he wrote an article in M.A.N. describing what was envisioned and what had already taken place. The class went dead once they figured out how to fly more than one model at a time around the pylons.
Contact Jerry in Texas for more info on this. I think he is only competitive survivor of the era.

Wallace,
Not sure if the 'Shark' model is the same one, but I found a sad looking 'shark' a year or so ago at a flying show boot sale, bought the plane, fixed it up and converted it to electric (some would frown at this!) I sold the motor which was an Italian item to a Canadian.
I have kept the kit true to its original design and have even left the engine cut-out as is, it helps cool the motor!
A couple of pics attached.
It flies very, very well, not balistic as the set up is a 'soft' one but must be pushing 90-100mph.
Good luck.

Wallace,
Here's some contact details that may help.
The engine was on OPS21 which I sold to Dave Sawers, he lives in Alberta, Canada and can be found on the RC forum - he flies pylon and knows alot on this topic.
The 'shark' was made in the UK by Simon Molence, I guess to your fathers specs, I have not been able to track Simon down, but a guy in the UK who is big in f5d pylon racing knows alot on the subject and remembers the model well. He can be contacted via email (rob@f5d.co.uk) his name is Rob Ashley-Roche.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks to everyone who responded to my message. I really didn't think much would come from this post and I have been pleasantly surprised. Dick, your name is very familiar to me and my mother remembers you. I bounce many of the names off her to see if she remembers them. I have to do this because I was pretty young when he died, 11, and at that age you're more interested in what your friends are doing than who your dad was hanging around with. It's sad but true, and as I grew up I kind of hated myself for that because those people are my only link to what he was like other than being "Dad" at home. I missed out on the "growing older with your old man" part of my life and it sucks. Dick, I swear you were part of the Grassfield? Are you still part of that club? If so, I think I am going to try and make it to the April builders show, I heard Dick Stein is bringing a B-25, and I also plan to join the club soon so if you're still there it would be nice to catch up on things. I believe there is still a bunch of the guys my dad flew with that still belong to the Grassfield and I can't wait to see them all again. Sorry it took so long to check this board but I'm glad I finally remembered. Thanks again guys.

If you go to www.ncplracing.org and check out the Who's Who section, there are pictures and names of all the racers from the last 10 years, many who have been doing this for 20+ years.

Wallace, I raced against your father several times at Rough River, KY and the Weak Signals club in Toledo. Nice man and a hell of a pylon pilot. My main interest was Q-500, but I flew Q-Midget also. Several of my friends raced your fathers' airplanes. Mainly the Shark Q-Midget. I'll check with the ones that are still around to see if anyone has any kits now.

Thanks rdyturn, anything you can scare up would be greatly appreciated. And if you can't find anything it's still worth the effort to hear kind words about my Dad. It's weird to hear about Rough River, I remember him going there but to hear someone else mention it is kind of surreal.

Wally, Your dad was one of the guys that taught me to fly back in '75 (I was 12 at the time). I raced with him until 1981, he helped me many times during those years, pitted for me during out of town races too.
I live in Las Vegas now but I'm making a trip up to the Grassfield next week for a pylon race. I have an original set of plans for one of his old race planes (Booray). When I'm up there let's hook up so I can give you these plans back. Got some stories for you too. Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I'll e-mail you.

Geez, guys, don't keep the rest of us in suspense.
Did Wallace get to meet anyone that replied?
I was browsing the site, and stumbled into the "Pylon" section. This makes for a pretty cool story.
