I've looked at several drives but haven't a clue which one will work best for me. I've seen some with what looks like speedometer cable all the way to the prop. There are also the shafts with universal joints. I like the looks of the machined units. I also like the rudder with the water pickup built in.

Are these the way to go or are the simpler looking units better?

Heres what it will be going into. I'll probably be using an Astro sensorless brushless 05 1T.

Greg,

The flex cable is the way to go. Both Fullers and Fine Designs are the VERY best. If you are going to put a brushless setup on it you will need a high quality unit that will stay put and stay together. Just make sure you order the parts for a HYDRO not MONO. A good skid fin is important too. Give either Ray or Chris a call. They really know thier stuff and will be a great help in choosing EXACTLY what you need.

With a good BL setup that hull should fly! :D

Cheers,

That's if you can't find his hardware in a hobby shop near you. Pick up a complete kit with 3/16" stub shaft. Flex is the way to go for simpler set up to achieve speed.

For power contact FastElectrics.com for great deals on high torque Mega motors or his NEO. He can help you select the proper power plant for your needs. Or you can try to get by on the cheap and get a recomendation from Ed Hughey on what turn motor to use direct on 8 cells... More maintenance this way, but a quick way to get into it and learn some basics.

If you are anywhere near the Chicago, IL area consider attending the Batavia Nationals 8/3-4 in a couple weeks for hands on help.

What hull is that, Greg? Sure looks like my "Volcanic Splash" from Blew-By-You Boats! I bought the hardware package with mine from Randy Naylor -- very nice and very complete. I put a 05 Cobalt in it using their flex shaft drive unit. Still painting mine, so haven't run it yet - maybe this week! Cheers .............. Jim.
