I have a Sagitta 600 I built in the late 80's that I wish to restore. I pulled the covering off of one wing (Monokote) as it was damaged, sagging etc. The thin balsa sheeting is in poor condition. Rather than attempting to cut it out, I want to laminate sheets of 1/64" balsa over it, then fill in the cap strips and tips. My question is, what should I use as an adhesive to laminate the sheets? I want something light, but strong that will not require long drying times due to the effort that clamping will require (pain in the butt)

Med CA?
Thinned epoxy?
3M-77?
Aliphatic glue?

thanks

I use a method of attaching balsa sheet to foam that should work for you. First you paint the areas to be bonded with slightly thinned Tightbond , let the pieces dry overnight, then with a steam iron set on high with water in it for steam, iron the sheet on to the wing . The alaphatic glue kicks to a polymer when it is heated and instantly bonds like contact cement . I've used this to attach sheet to fuselages and it works fine , you just have to be careful to not smash stuff with the iron and make sure you follow up with the other side befor the balsa shrinks.

This is the lightest method I've found to attach sheet and the glue is easy to work after it drys, you might also try putting in some food coloring so that you can see the glue line as you sand it out.

Good luck , :) (1/64" balsa  )
