I decided to base my vtol around the slow stick because of the weight factor. All up weight so far is 30 oz. I'm using two vtail mixers and GWS gyros. Not sure about the gyros they so far are pretty hard to adjust correctly. Here are a few pictures. I'm getting alot of rocking in the roll channel, not sure why. Also one motor seems to want to rev up sometimes. Any suggestions would help.

Link to vtolmans project. Seems as if finging gyros that work is a pain. Keep at it and let us know what you find.

strange, i must say that setting the gyros up on my vtol was a doddle!

my gyros have a gain and a limit. I set the gain to full and the limit to minimum. the limit controls the maximum input the gyro can give. I started at min and it worked but felt a little more controlable with the limit at about 25%.

my gyros are MS composit MS-44 heading lock gyros (running in rate mode!)

Looks great RCP ,,sounds like the gyro's are to sensitive like Vtolman said and giving you the rocking. The one reving up is a puzzle.
You might try reducing your ATV a little at a time on the ail channel , as you might be getting so much control that it starts to do a gyro induced roll thing where it is trying to correct so much that it gets rocking and rocks faster than the motors can control and then the one that is lagging over rev's

The one thing I found was I had the roll gyro turned the wrong way and it would rev the one motor when the wing went up on that side. It now is a little more stable, at least when I just hold the wing in my had. The other motor still revs up for now reason but it is acting like a radio hit. Which could be, it is a new reciever and I did not unwind the anttena (need to do that). I will mount the wing and give it a try tomorrow night. It should be a little better.

it is strange, because it should work well.

I take it they are rate gyros. If they are heading hold that is the problem!

Yes they are the gws rate gyros. I have not really tried it now that I have them turned in the correct location. I will try to hover it again tonight.

Ok I have everything set up correctly now and it does hover much better. All I need is to do some fine tuning and learn how to fly the darn thing. It is harder then it looks. Here is a short video of the first tethered hover.

Looking good there ,,that is pretty good in a confined space with all the airflow going around it.
keep going :D

RCPilot, the link to your vid is dead. I'd like to see it. How is the SS going?

Thanks,

Sorry I took it down. Needed room for others. I have not worked on it in a while. It just seemed a little too unstable for my flying skills. I am thinking of reworking it into a twin, but having the motors move with the evelator.

Sorry I have not worked on it in awhile. I am in the middel of building a complete R/C airport on my farm. 600 X 70 foot grass runway and inpound. So I have been too tied up to even look at it. I did convert it to a twin but the motors at this point do not move. The plan is to link them to the elevator in the future. The airport should be open in the spring and I will have time to get back to building and flying.

Thanks for asking.

No need for airport with VTOL :D

Would you say the GWS stuff gets the job done, or would you buy some other gyros and mixers if you would do it all over again ?

Good luck with the airport

The mixers are great, just the right ticket, but the GWS gyros could be better. If I had it to do again and had the bucks I would go with better gyros.

Sweet ! I'll go for those mixers then. I've think Im going for the Colco CLC-GY-400 instead of the PG-03... they are about $38 and are HH gyros... looks just like the Futaba 401..
