Help me out here guys. I bought Tom's R/C usb simulator cable and I cannot seem to get my Optic to communicate with FMS. When I initially plugged in the cable, the hardware was installed. I've set the controls on FMS for serial com3 and nothing happens. My Optic is set to negative shift, mode 2....what else am I missing to make this work?

I am using the Optic 6 with FMS and Clearview with no problems. I assume you are using windows XP. I am using the Hitec USB interface but assume yours would be somewhat similar. You will have to set up your interface using the control panel gameport icon. Select the rc-gameport and follow the instructions to calibate it with your Optic 6. If this works OK then go to FMS and set up your mapping so that your sticks agree with the control surfaces. ie channel 1 is aileron, channel 2 is elevator, channel 3 is throttle and channel 4 is rudder. Everything should work out at this point.
I strongly recommend you remove the RF module in your Optic 6 when using it with any simulator. This will save possible damage to your RF output transistor while operating with the antenna down for extended periods of time as well will reduce current draw so that the batteries will last several hours when using it with the simulator.
Good Luck
Dave
