Has any one got a simple solution to this? To give model stability hands off (stick at neutral)

The Futaba’s PA-1 and FMA Co-Pilot, use I think light/thermal sensing but that seems to have disadvantages, calibration weather conditions etc

The sparkfun 'IMU' cards might be employed but it looks like some serious maths is called for, or am I wrong?

A simple 2 axis displacement gyro would be just the thing, but most model applications seem to use rate sensors.

I'm new to the UAV forum, hope I haven't missed something obvious!!

There is a new stabilizer by Robbe that may have promise. Has built in 3 axis gyro and a optical sensor that works like a mouse pointing at ground.

You might want to check this out (AP-2000i).....I read somewhere else that the "inertial sensor" is supposed to be available in approx March and in the neighborhood of approx $80, and is physically similar to the FMA Co-Pilot sensor (infrared). My understanding is the Co-Pilot sensor can be used as a plug-in until the inertia sensor (much better approach) becomes available....then simply swap them out. Most folks in these forums will only be interested in the "flight stablisation" feature of this product, but it has other capabilities as well which might interest some others.
