Has anyone used in anger a pair of googles to fly a R/C or UAV? If so, which type would be most suitable?

I'm thinking of using a pair to monitor nthe forward looking camera on my Predator UAV.

Yes, several people have flown thier planes by video goggles, including my wife :p Sony Glasstrons are a good choice, they are great. Avoid goggles that only use one eye, or that you can see through such as eyetops, trying to fly with one eye and having all the background distractions really sucks. Glasstrons are like being inside the plane ! What do you mean "in anger" though ???

Yes there are a handful of us that have flown under the hood. If you do a quick search in the AP forum for 'under the hood' you can pull up a couple threads on it.
