Well, my buddy thought I was a bit nuts, but he agreed it might work...
Off we went, stuffed the biggest prop I had on the boat (#94434 D42mm P1.4" from Kyosho) and crossed our fingers.

First a picture of the boat:

Data:
Length=11"
Weight=280g (10oz)
Battery=3s2p 700 mAh LiPo
Motor=GBx3 from GoBrushless. Wound for 30k rpm!

Summer video:

(8 mb)

Winter video!!!!!

(2.8 mb) NEW updated... This video is in daylight. I also screw up a bit LOL.

I need to get a bigger dia prop though. Something that grabs more snow!

From my knowledge, this has not been done before. Sure, people have used air-props on modified boats or similar, but this is a hydro/rigger you can run on water and simply put it on loose snow and off it goes...

For the people who only have regular 540-05's, what is a GBx3 by gobrushless motor?

Well, basically, a GBx3 is a less than 2oz motor you can wind so it has around 1500-3000 rpm/v and can handle 250w. The torque in it allows you to run a boat prop designed for glow engines, on a 10oz boat :)

What you see in the first video I posted is teh Ghost running at around 90-110w power, spinning the prop around 25k rpm. It is limited in speed by it not being able to keep prop in water LOL.

In the winter video I am running at around 30-40w. (The snow isn't giving the prop enough to work with...)

I will be trying a 2.5" prop as soon as I can get ahold of one :)

thats too cool i have ideas already to try something crazy,, nice airtime there at the end, weeeeeee crunch, i wonder how something with dual counter rotating props would do like that,??/

I tried today with a air prop. Cut a Gunther (zagi prop) down to about 3".
http://kreature.dynu.com/boats/gb%20rigger/ghost_winter_01.jpg

Turns out it was too much. Compared to a real boat prop the air props are not very god in snow... They load the motor too much relative to the work they do.

I cut it down to about 2.5" and tried again. Still a bit too much load.

Here's a small video of it spinning. Fun to see the thrustcone:
