Hobby People has several "marine" ESC's I've never seen before, can't figure out much about them... a couple are labeled with "reverse", the rest are dubious... anyone have a clue?

Pat , a quick search came up with that listed as being by RipMax, another eureopean unit.

I've found that asking the employees at my local HP is a exercise in futility.
They're promoting these new "off" brands with packaging that gives almost NO information about the specifics of the ESC within.
I have gone in 3x to try another ESC and each one has been either no reverse or "braked". The only one on that list I would recommend is the Mtroniks one.
The "XTRA" brand ESC's do not appear to be waterproof or "reverse"
This guy has a great breakdown of budget ESC's

as far as high end, I stand by my Mtroniks Super Marine... (somehow found on the shelf of my local HP!)

Hi Guys,
What's the drawback to a "Braked ESC" when run in a boat?
Thanks

I have an Mtroniks 20amp ESC in my destroyer, and have never had any problems with it. The "Xtra Sea Rover 15A Boat ESC 7.2V" looks like a "duratrax Blast" rc car ESC. I don't recognize any of the other styles.

Braking- all depends. The latest Mtroniks 'Viper' line has a brake option which momentarily puts the ESC in a mode which essentially clamps the motor down- really brakes it, electrically, before reversing. The amount is optional- really cool.

Many car ESC's have a brake function that requires you to brake (that is, hit reverse), release, then reverse again before getting reverse- really annoying if you're doing a lot of backing. Other car ESC's are designed to protect highly 'timed' motors which will burn up in reverse- they'll time out in reverse after maybe 8 seconds (LRP for example).

Hey, "that guy" has a really ultimate cool ESC review page, dontcha think? I wish he'd get around to updating it though... ;)

I use the VANTEC 411P, this thing can handle anything, have full forward and full reverse. I run two Hobbico 12V 7ah batteries in parallel. to two MACK 5045s.

I am pushing about 8' of aircraft carrier that weighs over 50 pounds...

All your ESC questions are answered right here...if not, you don't need to know them.
