Ok I need help identifying a component that I "removed" from a gy240. I "removed" the component while trying to clean the silicone from the lower board of my gy240. The component, ?C1? was distroyed by only one end being removed, and the other stayed on the board. I am not sure what value cap to replace it with, or what size (0403?), and I am wondering if anyone has any ideas or a gy240 without case that they might be able to measue. If i counted correctly, the cap sits on pins 10 and 11 on the chip. Any help or ideas would be appricated.

I managed to do the same thing to my GY401, the capactor is the same value as the other ones around the sides of the chip. there are 4 in total and they are all the same value.

See the circled smd capacitor in the picture, you may have to remove it to get a good reading on the capacitance.

Thanks, I am glad to know that they are the same values.

Ok, I went to measure and I got 22nF (.022uf). Does this seem about right? Also, I removed the circled cap and measured it, but after instaltion, it now reads about 30nf. do I not have a good solder joint? Did I over heat the cap? I will try to pick up some 22nf caps tomorw, and I am assuming these are type 0403? Am I correct?

The capacitance will be off when measured in the circuit, as there is capacitance inside the circuit that affect the measurement. Try not to get the caps too hot but just touch them with the soldering iron so they get a good solder joint (use a magnifying glass to check??)

Not sure on the size.. theyre really tiny though

If you are not sure of your solder joints, you can do a continuity check with your multimeter, from the end cap of the capacitor to the trace that it is connected too. In this case you could go to the leg of the chip. I presume you are taking anti-static precuations too?

I understand on measureing while in-circut. I pulled the cap out of the circut, measured at about 23nf and then placed back in. When I re-measured, the capitiance was now ~28nf, and I am concerind that I might have overheated the cap. On magnification, how about doing the work under a Stero Microscope? :p

I was wondering if a bad joint would increase capitiance.

Not sure if it would increase, you could always replace the cap with a new one if your worried. have you tried out the gyro yet?

No, not yet, as it is still missing the cap. I tried going to my local elecronics store, but all they had was 1206 not 0402, so I need to order from mouser.
