Has a rudder attached to the rudder and it turns sharper than the main rudder? Almost forming a "U" shape?
I have seen it, and have forgotten the name. It is used on tug boats. I was telling Cap'n Horrible about it but the correct nomenclature escapes me at the moment.

Becker Rudder is the term you are looking for.

Generically, they are sometimes called "articulated rudders," with 2 additional moving rudders linked to and part of the main one, resulting in a 3 section rudder.

I think the one you're interested in is the one that will turn the aft part sharper than the main part. It's called a flap rudder. Here's a link to how to build one.

The 'flap-rudder' and the 'becker rudder' are the same thing. Different places, different names...

I once sailed on a Bowater ship, converted to a drilling ship, that had a Becker rudder which also had a small electric powered prop on the aft side of the flap part. It was all disconnected by then but the control on the bridge was similar to a bow thrust quadrant
