Has anybody any experience of this little German, habour barge kit?

My local hoby shop was having a clearance and I bought this fairly old kit at a good price but the instructions and drawings are all in German. There are not many German speakers in my part of France and I struggle with French, let alone German! An Internet translation programme has proved fairly useless.

I have sent an enquiry to the manufacturers.

Any help would be much appreciated. If anyone has drawings or instructions in English I would gladly pay for them.

The Manufacturer turned up trumps. I had a reply after just 2 days and they sent me a translation, free. Great service. Well done Krick in Germany.

OK, I will try to provide a commentary on the build with some pics. but be warned I am a slow worker. Also, "she who must be obeyed" always has a list of demanding chores which take priority! However, my major disadvantage is that I am about to start a major re-build of my workshop. Since moving to France I have eveything stored in the garage awaiting this re-build, such that many tools are still crated.

I much admire the folk who work "on the kitchen table" but that is not for me.

Here (I hope) are some pics. of the box and what comes out of it.

Dimensions:Length 634mm. Beam 148mm. Height 270mm.
Scale 1:25. Hull material ABS.

The kit appears to be comprehensive with the usual disclaimer "No RC; no glue: no paint". The box adds the stern Message "This model is not a toy", (hope my wife reads that!).

The two 1mm. ply sheets are slightly warped but nothing that will not pull up under construction.

The plan is good but the instuctions sparse. The German version appears to be much more comprehensive and has a few line drawings not in the English set. They claim the kit is true to scall and easy to build, designed for beginners.

I got this kit from a sale in my local model shop as they were stripping out stock prior to rebuilding. 78 euros.

The boat looks really good. You called it a barge but it looks like a motor launch to me. Very nice! Can't wait to see the build. ;)

Yes, it is a motor launch but the box decribes it as "a harbour barge". I would certainly recognise that name to mean a launch. "Barge" is a widely used and understood term for such boats. In the Royal Navy for example an "Admiral's Barge" would be a rather smart, motor launch for conducting the Admiral from ship to shore. Again, the "Royal Barge" is a motor launch for the Queen and in former times would have been a rowed launch.

Incidentally, I am not sure that I shall buld her as shown. I think rather more varnished wood would look good. Also, as I am an Englishman, living in France, flying a German flag could be confusing!

These boats actually are still in use in the German seaports, I have a few articles about it when the kit first came on the market, if you're interested I could look them up, scan them and mail them to you.
I memory serves me well, one is in Dutch and the other in German, not a big help, I know, but at least the pictures might be of use.
