View Full Version : Discussion Would this work as airbrake?

Hi,
I had an idea of making flaps more effective airbrake with small tape fences to separate flow. Now I would like to know if someone has an idea how tall the tape should be to be effective. Also the lift would be reduced but is this problem to stability? The plane I'm working with is pylon racer and there is limitation how much I can get flap throw.
The plane can be seen here:

At the top is the wing with zero flap, middle is flap at turn and on the bottom the flap is down for landing.

Thanks,
Antti

Rather than rely on tape bending properly, put a small tit on the nose of the flap that raises a short chord flap when the main flap is extended... ??

wouldn't flow be separated anyway on the top of the airfoil in slow flight? Especially with the flaps down?

Pylon planes are held together with tape :D I trust it and with tape there is no modifications needed and no extra hingeline to disturb laminar flow
I'm not sure weather the flow is separated or not or is it partially separated and how much. This might be little tough topic.
Thanks
