I dunno about RCU reviews - they said the Genesis was good - and let's face
it - it's just not is it. They're good writers no doubt, but the tests are
always done over the course of 1 day - that's not enough for an RC, new ones
are always good for the first little while, they need to be reviewed over
the course of a few gallons really, or at least a race weekend or something,
really give them some hammer and see if there is any issues. Also, they're
hardly gonna bite the hands that feed them as it were....

Places like www.rckingdom.com.uk are good places for reviews - independant
and unbiased. I tend to mainly look towards forums for reviews, real life
experience. Also, not manufacturer forums or dedicated forums for which
truck to buy kinda advice, because they're full of fan boys. E.g. go onto
Sav central, which is great for Sav advice, and they'll all tell you to buy
a Sav. Go onto the Traxass forums, they'll all tell you to buy a Revo. I
use www.Maxbashing.com a lot - lots of different opinions on there and
plenty of knowledgeable types.

Yep, it was your reply that prompted me to start a new thread. The newbs
really do need unbiased information when they're first getting started. I'd
hate to see a guy blow $599 on a Genesis and then leave the hobby 3 weeks
later d/t it being an inferior product and giving him a false impression of
what this hobby and it's products are really like. There are (2) Genesis'
at my LHS right now for sale that are less than a month old for just this
reason. Newb walks in with a wad of cash, asshole owner sells him the
biggest most expensive truck there with zero knowledge of what he's selling
and zero advice given to the customer and three weeks later it's all
over......................

My favorite thing to do is set-up, break-in and tune a new nitro r/c. I
like it better than racing or bashing. This is however the worst time for a
newb who doesn't have a clue what he's doing. I think it would be great for
LHS's to offer a setup and break-in tutorial for newbs for a small fee or
included with the sale price (some actually do). This would get em' started
on the right foot and give them a workable knowledge of r/c stuff. Hell,
I'd "volunteer" on weekends to do something like that just cause it's fun
and I'd have more folks to bullshit and bash with.

I'm a newb (don't like the name though, sounds like pube) and I am more
interested in electric than nitro mainly because I think I would be
completely out of my depth with a nitro as you suggested. But what you
said about a nitro tutorial for beginners would be quite useful - any
chance of compiling one and releasing it on this forum as one of those
newsgroup FAQs?

Hmmmm, might be something I could throw together in my spare time. I'd be
baffled if one didn't already exist as a 'sticky' on another forum

Wouldn't be a bad idea! There's enough nitro heads on here to put something
really comprehensive together. We could maybe pass around a word document
via e-mail until it's ready to "post" and then figure out what the hell to
do with it then.

As long as you don't have anything to do with the section on "keeping your
vehicle clean" we should be ok! <g> Actually, somewhere between what you do
to keep em' clean and what I do to keep em' clean would be just about right.
I know I'm neurotic.................it usually takes me an hour per session
to clean up afterwards. They always "look like new" though!

I only buy them for the pictures :) Actually, I like the buyer's
guide/people's choice type editions best. Can't stand the Extreme RC
mag - too much adult content which I think is inappropriate for an RC mag.

Now if there were a web site which cataloged all products and reviews of
each where available, something like Amazon but not a shop, that would
be cool!

DooD! I thought he had you stumped with the ol' dead mother thing (I know
it shuts me up every time when I'm giving a rant of "yer mom" jokes) but you
just kept on diggin'. Atta boy! I never know if the person truly has a

Seems we have ourselves a troll! Aside from that your logic is flawed. You
didn't put "a single ounce of effort into a few on-line replies because
