G'day all,
Recently I saw these cool looking and practical standoff mounts for Out runners. 4 aluminium posts threaded all the way through about 8-10mm thick that you simply cut to length and mount.
Can't remember for the life of me where I saw them online but was wondering if anyone else has some info on where to get them or the material to make them.
Thanks
Mark

If you are refering to 4 threaded rods. Making them is pretty simple, all you need to get is threaded rod and then use two nuts on either side of the firewall to bolt it together and then epoxy it on if you want.
Or you could just use larger diameter tube CF and just epoxy that onto the firewall and onto the displaced firewall, and then youve got yourself a light weight structure that looks good.
This idea i saw being used in another thread,

MEGA OOPS, double post...
but 4 posts are what we need for a strong motor mount.

LOL......your not going to believe this one. :D
Guess what the mount is for...... :) the very same plane from the KM thread link you posted...LOL
I made a carbon tube and ply mount like that once before but thought it would be quicker using the aluminium type and if i bought a few I'd have them for the next time things went bad :D

Oh my gosh... what happened to that plane... looks like someone flew a DLG into someone's almost-complete kit plane :D
How are those Hyperion motors?

LOL i believe you.
BTW what motor was on your KM...
Must have had HEAPS of power to be able to break the prop from the centripetal forces and then the vibration from the imbalance ripped the plane to bits.
(Theres always another reason other than the pilot)
How was the KM, i was thinking of getting one for $169 at perth RC, the purple one.

LOL.. It was my second flight ...strong wind and big torque rolls struggled to stop it rolling left...Still had it at low rates....not enough throw to recover..Whack....it was all over. :( ...but she's as good as new now. :D
The Hyperion is a Z3013-14... gobs of power
1.4KG static thrust on an APC 11x5.5E drawing 27amps WOT.
The Katana weighs 810 grams and is off the ground in just a few feet.

Yeah I couldn't believe how good it went.....Like it's on rails or something.
Lots faster than I expected but there's that throttle Myth to consider..LOL :D
Yeah it's all back together and covered but waiting on a replacement cowl so I can make the motor mount and setup the thrust line.
