Hi Guys.
I just got what I think is a pretty good deal. I paid $75 for a 'T-Maxx' with 4wd and a huge box of accessories including 3 sets of wheels and 3 canopys.
Trouble is that it came with no Tx and the motor is in pieces in the box, (it says '16' on it).
The truck has the Traxxas radio pulled out of it (and provided in a ziplock back) and now has airtronics servos sat inside. The EZ-Start has also been pulled off and is in the box. Looks like he had an upgraded motor in there and sold that seperately.

The model is in excellent condition.

My questions are: What 'entry -level' Tx and motor will power this vehicle? How can I tell which T-Maxx it is, what model?

I have found a bunch of T-Maxx Tx's on ebay but I am not sure which to buy. Thanks from a total newbie>>>> :)

Sheesh, thats a lot of stuff you need to do there.
If you were close I could set it up for you.
Or you can take it to your LHS (local hobby shop).
It would take a while to write out the directions, and they may be too confusing to understand.

Any pointers would be appreciated. I do have experience with RC aircraft so I am not totally in the dark. I just pulled the receiver out and its a 'fm 75 mhz micro' type. So it looks like the stock T-Maxx AM Tx isnt going to do it. I have a number of RC sets but none car specific. I could throw one of those in it I suppose and sell the airtronics rx and servos. Strange thing is he had the Tx (nice with LCD display) but wanted $200 for that alone. I didnt have that kind of cash so just took the car. However looks like he left the high-end RC rx stuff in it... :)

So is it possiblt to set this up on a regular 3-channel RC system? (what about shifting is that auto?) and what kind of motor?

Thanks all.

The t-maxx only needs the third channel to shift from forward and Rev. The basic AM T-maxx radios you see on ebay will work just fine and a Futaba or Traxxas Servo will work, you need a high touque servo for the steering. and a good engine would be to find a revo engine 2.5R they go for a fair price on ebay also. the way you can tell if it is the 2.5 or .15 model is look at the A-arms and shock towers the 2.5 will have a set of 3 holes per shock and the 2.5 a-arm will have four sets of mounting holes per shock.

I would just buy the airtronics MX-3 transmitter only. They go for about 100 or even less if you get it during a sale. Since you already have the airtronics servos and RX you wouldn't need anything else for electronics.
I don't care much for the traxxas engines; they're very tempermental and hard to tune. I would look into getting an O.S. motor. They make .18 size motors specifically made for the T-maxx.
