Hello,

Anyone build a single encased rotor VTOL ? (using fixed wing prop enclosed in carbon fibre tubedriven by nitro .40 motor)

The counter torque would be by set of fins controlled by micro servos

What would be the maximum all up weight for this size engine?

Thanks

so.. basically a large ringed prop with fins on either the outside surface of ring or below it actively countering the rotor's torque? Try building a working model of it and see if it works. *you'd have to have some kind of onboard gyro stabilized system that would tilt the vanes/fins in a direction, preventing the ring itself from spinning opposite of the rotor's torque.*

The basic concept is to have a wingless aircraft turn upwards. The prop can either be a pusher or puller.

It will be standing on 3 legs, control surface would be the fins which counteract the torque from the prop and also pitch the craft to move in the desire direction.

Gyro might be required.

How to determine the weight to power ratio?

Some company has already built one .... I don't have the pix of it anymore as I lost my hard drive ,,but they flew and there are a few still around. Saw one on ebay couple months ago.

The MAV is incredible to watch fly! It works - hover down a street, land, takeoff,... It is known as perch and stare.
