Hi folks,

I'm working through slowly with a first time gas powered model build. She's a .40 size Spinks Acromaster with a fibre-glass fuselage. It's as close to a kit build as you're gonna get so I have a few questions.

Questions I have are these:

1. I have a foam core wing which I've covered with 1mm balsa sheets. I was going to use a couple of laser control rods (I think that's what you call them??) for the ailerons. I was going to hack my way through this, but if anyone has a preferred method that works well, I'd appreciate it.

2. What do you use for the firewall? I was thinking of using laminated balsa sheets. Good or bad?

3. CoG: When do you measure the CoG? ie With or without fuel?

4. Last question for now...I suspect it depends on the fuel tank, but how do you mount and fix your fuel tanks inside the plane?

Thanks in advance...

Ex.

PS: I've built a few electric powered models using foam mainly so I've not had to worry about these questions.

ok set your cg with tank empty and make it a little not much though noise heavy its better to have it a little heavy in frot then in the tail if its tail heavy it will want to stall on you

no do not make the firewall out of balsa big no no if it takes a .40 nitro engine you can use 1/4 light plywood. with triangle block on the inside.

i would mount a servo on each side of the wing and run extended wire to the fuse. to a y harness this is a neater job. plus it is better for the plane and servos.

hm let see what elase did you ask ?oh yeh

your gas tank use soft foam like in couch seats.and keep the battery pack as far away from the receaver as you can.to keep it from interrupting the receaver.

if i can be of any other help you cab email me at candh05@aol.com :D

Yes, for the firewall definantly use either 1/4 plywood, or you can just laminate smaller piece of plywood together to get to this thickness. ....

As for the fuel tank, I use foam rubber. Basically just stuff the tank behind the firewall, and fill all the space with foam rubber. :)

Tks Blizzard...got myself some sponge foam for the fuel tank and firewall now mounted with 1/4 plywood. Thread continued in a more appropriate forum here:
