Any e-combat around Melbourne Metro people know of? If not, perhaps we can set something up for a bit of fun somewhere.

Ex,

Can your transmitter make it about 3000km north to Queensland for a few rounds of fun :D

I was down there, I'd be all for the combat.

From what I've found it's a hell of a lot harder than it sounds. My mates and I all fly Foam Deltas and have had some close calls even when we have been trying our hardest.. :D There's been contact at times with no Damage at all.
3 planes (2 strykers and an ME163) chasing each other in a tight continuous loop is a good laugh.

Mark, that'd sounds like a hoot :D...but I was hoping for something with a little less contact. Perhaps using something like a streamer like I've seen in the other forums or if we get real technical then perhaps the combat modules.

Streamers are good++. You definately need at least 3 people I think, else it just ends up being a competition of who can do the tightest loop quite often.

Hey mark, how's those cells going? I've sold off quite a few now.

Yeah One of the Guys is into burning PIC chips and stuff and is working on a module that puts all controls to Neutral when your hit. It will record direct hits as well as damage accumulated upto the preset allowed limit.
Also keeps score so it can be downloaded to a Notebook on site to see who really won.
It will be lots of fun when and IF he gets it up and running.

Going great Paul. They are doing exactly as they Claim and I've spread the word.

They are worth every cent which is more than I can say for some of the other cheaper packs I have bought.

Mark,

Glad to hear it ... I've got 8 left out of 20... then I'll make an order and also get some 1350's as well.

Now... about this combat stuff, with a streamer it'll be good fun.... not sure if this plane I'm building now would be any good for combat, gosh, don't even know if it'll _fly_

That looks cool Paul...Dunno about putting streamers on that thing though. Won't it be a pusher!

Would be cool to just throw something together like the profile foamies so if they get damaged, then it's no biggy.

Ex,

I could put them on the tail booms, that'll be about 4" clear of the 7" prop.

Or you could mount it on the prop nut and hope it will have a spinning action that will propell it like how the "streamers" on the star wars episode 1 ship was propelled underwater.

Love the ship. I would have probably liked a larger, longer nose, but thats my own 2 cents that cant really get you much these days, (lollies have been under the influence of extreme inflation costing more like 20c each now)

Owen,

Yes, I remember getting a bagfull with 20c :(

Yes, maybe I'd go with a longer nose, I still could, but this is "prototype #1". I'm coming under 300g AUW so far, even with 3 servos (flaperon + elevator). I may run short on the nose weight with just the gear I have but I guess we'll see.

I've tried mounting streamers on the prop nut on my pusher jets and it's no good. The prop spins too fast which just causes the streamers to coil up and even wrap around the motor.

Yah, Its because the centrifugal force is greater than the prop wash when you start the motor, so it manages to touch the prop, and then you have a self TK!!!

lol

What are you going to name it? or wait till you fly it and name it after a distinct flight characteristic, eg.

Snap harrier spin leetness thingy:D

or a Liger...

So long as it's not "Smash and burn"

Hey Paul,

What type of airfoil are you using? A selig s series? Good for flying wings, and is the wing a straight edged plan form or tapered...... ? And where is the balance point (c of g) in relation to the prop line? Sorry for all the questions, just that you have peaked my interest....... I have done a lot of work of canards ( a few years back)

David,

mostly my answers are really more like "Shrug" :D

Airfoil is very minimal, it's actually made from two planks of 100mm wide 5mm balsa (about 50g per sheet). I sliced the balsa at an angle, flipped it around, cut off the leading-edge taper, stuck a bit of that on the tips (to give some more span) and then planed and sanded it down (20% LE, 35% TE).

The wing tapers from about a 210mm root down to 150mm.

The CG... well, this is where the shrugging comes into play :( I'm rouging about 70mm from the LE at the center (just ahead of the tips if u drew a straight line from tip to tip).

So far this is strictly prototype mayhem... it might get a chance to fly tommorow, I'm not sure, depends on how much coffee I drink tonight and if I can get "in the mood".

What was your carnard work for previously? I've always wanted to make a model of the SAAB Viggen ... it was the first ever plastic model I made as a kid of 4~5yrs old... it has a very strong place in my heart.

Possibly one of the best looking aircraft ever built.... the gripen is the next best aircraft in terms of looks.........

Most of my 10 years or so of Modelling (C/L, R/C some FF) were spent building from scratch... or plans, sometimes (when money allowed ) kits, I loved the advantages of canards, i messed with foils, C of G's, center of lift's, reynolds numbers, aspect ratio...etc it has been a few years but i do still love the fast sleek shape of a canard.....que: Burts long-eze...an other pretty plane.. a full size one lives just down the road from my house at archerfield....pretty plane....... anyway im rambling so i hope this helps

Okay, I need to cut a new slot in my GWS BL motor shaft... shaft isn't the same as any of the others I have. The new slot is so I can turn the shaft around, kind of strange that GWS hasn't allowed for this :( Hopefully we'll see some "reversed" shafts being offered as spare parts.
