View Full Version : Question How close to match wing half weights?

If I have two wing halves that are different in weight, how far off do they need to be before I notice a difference in RC flight?

Obviously if they match weights exactly, that would be best. In level flight, the ailerons can be used to trim the weight difference with no problem. I think where you see the problem most is in loops where the plane will roll while going through the loop and also when increasing speed in a dive. I am not looking for precision aerobatics, but don't want to come out of a loop with a 45 degree roll.

I think that the weight of the wing halves matter as well as probably the span and the total weight of the plane, but I could be wrong. (Example .5 oz difference may not matter on a 10 foot wing where the halves weigh 5 lbs each, but will certainly make a difference on a 2 foot wing where the wing halves weigh 1 oz each.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this!

The lateral balance of the total wing is more important than then the variation of the individual wings.

You may have a pair of wings with different weights that balance perfectly, due to non-uniform mass distribution.
