I'm about to build one of these, can I possbily get a copy of that video of you hovering; I work on the V-22 program and I'm getting into VTOL rc, but none of my friends can believe that an rc plane can hover with one engine. It would be great if I can have that video on my laptop and prove them wrong.

Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn ,,, do a web search on Bell XV-3 and show your people a real aircraft .. it was the first american tilt rotor that made a full conversion and it was driven by one IC engine in the middle. I don't think there are any vid of it ,,but there are plenty of pix of it flying both in heli and airplane mode...and this should shut them up ,,with our models they will just say ,,ya they can because it is a model ..but the XV-3 is a real aircraft that they can't put down.
Here is a link with a pix of it in flight.Bell XV-3 tilt rotor (http://www.vstol.org/wheel/VSTOLWheel/BellXV-3.htm)
another (http://www.unrealaircraft.com/gravity/bell200.php)
another (http://www.ascho.wpafb.af.mil/korea/photos/cap52.htm)
a little history of tilts (http://www.aiaa.org/tc/vstol/same.html)
Hope this helps some

Larry.....

Okay, I stumbled on my wording.... the xv is one engine... 2 rotors.... The V-22 can do alot of things on One-Engine-Inoperable condition.... its understood... but the fact that the CG of this RC model is level with or above the one "rotor" to say, brings about a whole level of stability issues. This rc model, just looking at it, is a basketball on top of a finger... simply awesome on control... amazing how its being done. But then again, 3 gyros is 3 gyros. But still... Very impressive

O.K. that makes all the difference in the world ,,I can understand your amazement then ,, But let's consider the pogo and the XVF-1 tail setters of the 40's they were center CG and one prop engine birds that also did the conversion . Now we have R/C versions of that bird. I can't find the link right now but a hobby shop in Austrailia has the New Wave VTOL that is one of Don Incolls designs of the XVF-1 tail setter in kit form . That might be a good way for you to start out .I had one and it would hover ,take off vertical or regular and would make the conversion. I never got good enough with it to be able to land it vert. It also didn't hover long in one spot near the ground ,,,you just jumped into the air and flew it .

Now less not for get about Eric Dainte's Hawker Harrier that hovered and transitioned and back.I use to have a vid of that ...
Then there is the guy that is doing one with a turbine jet engine. That link is here in case you missed it.Scroll down to almost "other projects" and click on BEDSTEAD link for the vid of his test bed harrier hovering

I have a set of unused plans for the Vertigo (obtained from Model Airplane News of course) that I will not be using that I want to pass on to someone who wants them. Probably I have the magazine articles too but I will have to look.

I will ship them to you for $20 plus $5 for shipping. (MAN wants $29.95 plus shipping) If you are interested please send me a PM or email to sturgeon@asis.com

Happy Landings! fish
