Just came home from a rare winter coastal treat....2 mph wind, sunshine, and cu's all over the sky!!!

Several thermal flights from hand launches, best flight to 800' for 20 minutes.

It's hard to beat that in January...although two years ago I lucked into 2500' on Christmas day.

Any others, I'd like to hear?

Was flying my Chrsalis HLG today, no thermals but still nice to get out. I've flown a few times this year, sunny days but no thermal activity to speak of. Is it possible that the ocean is providing a heat source for thermals?

I don't think flystoolow is knee deep in snow either like the rest of us!! :D

Had a real mixed bag of weather here today. It started as rain, then about an inch of snow then the sun appeared just like the middle of Aug. Around 3pm there were some huge cu's floating by. If I was not working today I would have been out there chasing them.
Cheers Bob

Shoveled my driveway three times today-didn't notice a single thermal.

C'mon now, didn't the snow get any lighter as you dug deeper :p !

Did I mention dozens of people walked by wearing T-shirts with sweaters tied around their waists while I was flying? I almost felt like going for a swim in the lake after flying....but I had a headache 'cause I forgot my sunglasses  .

..Oh, I am sorry to go through the details :D .

That's OK, because its building season and I'll have lots of new ships ready for the sunshine. When it snows in lower BC their buildings collapse and they have to re-build those!

Hey, another Winnipegger! Thanks to Mother Nature, we're blessed with an excessively long building season... I've tried it before, but even the warm air currents are too cold to stay outside for too long! It's nice being able to dork a glider into a snowbank without much worry though.

Whereabouts do you fly, Batmanwpg? Been looking to hook up with some others eventually, schoolyards are convenient, but there's never any other flyers...

I fly with the MAAC Men out of LaBarriere Park. Our club has about 20+ members. We had a meeting today to set up our contest schedule for the up coming season. PM me if you want the schedule, come on out, the more the merrier! :D
Where abouts are you?

Hey, I'm in St. Vital, so I'm only about 15 minutes away, I first flew at LaBarriere some 15 years ago, didn't stay too long. Eventually got back into R/C with some teeny HLG at the nearby schoolyard. I'd love to get back in full-tilt with a new 2m thermaller, a foamie sloper, and another small HLG. I'm definately not competition material, but it'd be nice to soar with some others.

Most only fly for fun. We have one contest named "The Steer for Beer" so how can you take that seriously :D
A foamie sloper, great that's May long weekend when most of the group travels to QuAppelle valley in SK to slope fly. Tons of fun and a great slope. Can't beat that for getting stick time. See pics
When the grass starts getting green we fly at the LaBarriere Wednesday evenings and Sunday from mid morn to about 3:00pm.
