I took a Sloping/DS vacation

Yesterday I spent the day at Carter Dam in GA. It was my first time DS'g. I spun hundreds of laps. It was a blast. I met two Atlanta slope buddys and we had a bunch of fun. John Kesler and Spencer Lisenby are the Atlanta flyers. We flew hours of combat and the same amount doing DS. Both of these guys had JW60s, so it was a DS fest. We had 3 JW's sharing the same DS space. To bad we didn't have a 4th person to take video of that.

John has been maintaining a webpage of photos and video. He updated it yesterday.

This link will take you to the video and picture page. It was a blast flying here. I want to take all of you locals someday. The quarry is a blast and is an equal, but this place is a blast plus 1.

I know what sloping is, but what is DS?

I've seen a term like Dynamic Soaring, but not an explanation of what that really means. It came across like it is something other than sloping, but it could be basically the same.

Or is DS some sort of competitive event with rules as compared to just going out having fun flying a heavily-weighted glider in high winds over the right part of a slope where there are updrafts?

Here is a link to the RCGroups offical DS forum. It consists of hundreds of guys who love DS. Yes DS is dynamic Soaring.

Go to that thread and use the search tools to look for "tutorial", "howto", "teach" and other related words and you will find a decent tutorial on DS'g.

That slope racer is FAST!!!!
135 mph for that racer. In a straight down dive, it hit 110 mph. Spencer had a radar gun.
