I have been looking for suppliers of large hinge points for a 1/4 scale Sukhoi SU26. I have, in the past, seen some that look about 1/4" diameter but all I can find these days are the Robart ones that are about 3/16". Does anyone still make the really large ones.

The Robart 3/16" will serve nicely. Don't recall any which were 1/4".

Plumber,

It's not the strength of the actual hinge that I am so concerned about but what it's anchored in which is mostly EPS foam.

Ah.

My only 'foam' model is a 33% Extra 230, and it has fairly thick balsa trailing edges in which to anchor the hinge points.

I believe it's Robart, or someone, that has tubular anchors for the hinge points. The hinge points can be removed from them if disassembly is desired. They are a little larger in diameter than the hinge points that they fit, so would provide more anchor area.

I can't remember where I saw them, but if you can't find them at Robart, you might try Tower Hobby's catalog or website. I'm not sure what sizes they were available for, but they may have been available for the 3/16. Don't recall ever seeing any larger than 3/16.

I've got a trial pack of the anchor tubes and the 3/16 size hinge points coming, let's see how they work.
