Hi guys
I have various stators with 4 and 8 poles and i want to know if it is possible to build a controller for these motors to make a brushless.I imagine that it have to be sensored , somebody know somoane who build one of this.Is possible to obtain a good performance with one of these motors.
Thanks

You can do 2/4phase motors, NOT a 3phase. But you will have to build your own controller for it.

3x4 poles =12poles

Hi
Ok , i know , three phase motors have 3, 6 , 9 , 12 , 15 , 18 ......poles , all the result of multiply 3 for all the rest of numbers.
In my case i have a stator with 8 poles , i know that it isnīt a three phase motor , but like in the case of the pc fan motor ( with 4 poles) i tihnk that it is possible to make a sensored controler for my stator...and it will be useful or it is a foolish idea.
Thanks

It may work but it wont be anywhere near as strong as even a hdd motor with new magnets but stock stator (not rewound). So iīd say its a foolish idea.

Ok never mind :( I have a lot of brushless stators to work :D

I remember somebody posting a thread detailing how they stacked 3 4 pole stators - one on top of another (I think they had to align the stators at 120 degrees)
Each stator was wired as one phase
So you get a triple height motor - just need to find big enough magnets & can

That would be Herbert Kabi's trio design:

Hi
Thanks a lot Ron ;) , you are a walking bible about homemade motors :) I have over sixty PC fan coolers :D :D
Thanks.

One of the advantages of being moderator of the diy brushless e-mail discussion group, it comes with the job:

Not that Herbert wrote somewhere that this type of motor has more cogging and can be noisy.

That motor seems to have 8 magnets and 8 stator teeth??

i have not tried same number stators - poles,
but normally you need less, or more poles than stator tooth, so your motor can run smooth,
in a PC fan, there are 4 stator tooth, and 3 pole pairs on the rotor.
i whould use 6, or 7 pole pairs for 8 tooth, that whould be 12 or 14 poles,
And yes, you whould have to build your own controller for it, a 2 or 4 phase one.
huh, Ron van Sommeren,
cool idea! , as a side effect, it will be 3 times more powerful too ;)

That motor seems to have 8 magnets and 8 stator teeth?? ...Correct, it will work for every even number of poles.
