The standard size "CD-ROM" motors, which have stators in the 22-25mm range come from old computer CD-ROM drives. (Hence the name! :D )

Other good sources of larger stators are Laser Disk Players, ZIP drives, Electric drills, blenders, hand mixers, etc. Most of these stators are in the 30-40mm size range, and you will need to use a metal lathe to make custom endbells and flux rings to fit these.

If you want to save a lot of time, there are a few kit manufacturers that sell parts. www.gobrushless.com has individual parts, stock motors, and complete DIY kits at their website.
