I priced some stuff to do it through a commercial laser cutting company and the cost was very high. I had done all all the design work but the cost and lead time was huge.

If you have any luck with Dave Brown let us know

Dave is ok. I have sent him CAD plans before and had some small short kits cut. Its worthwhile talking to him as you need to make allowances for the kerf, etc and understand the limitations of the laser when you are putting your drawings together.
