If you are using the esc in a helicopter then you definitely want brake off

You should also ensure that you make the right choice for the number of cells in your battery pack - this ESC monitors the inbound battery voltage & shuts down (hopefully) before draining your battery too far

Timing mode is an attempt to give you some control of how aggresively the ESC should drive the motor
I suggest that for 2S & 3S battery packs on an averge motor you probably need to select 3 or 8 degrees advance - start with 3 (probably the factory default)

Thw pwm frequency - this is the 'chopping' frequency - when a phase is energised it will be siwtched on/off at this rate (this is a way of controlling current flow through the motor coils and ensuring that the electronics don't overheat)

set this to 8KHz (probably the factory default)
Once you've got everything working you can try changing this setting
If the motor works happily at 16KHz or 32KHz you may notice that it actually runs cooler

I'm sure someone else wil correct this if not quite right

Check the connections. Usually the motor just vibrates and does not start, if only two of the three wires are connected.
