Yup, it looks like Sunday is the perfect time to head back to the Power Line Cut. A warm SW wind and lots of vertical lift. Remember this place has a built in set of limbo bars, lots of tall grass, an occasional hiker, and great views of the SE city.
Plus, you will get lots of excercise walking yourself.
1pm till dark sounds about right.

Wish I could make it, Dave and Gary, but I've got to finish my studying. Maybe it will rain on ya'll for going without me!
Dave, I was looking at the site a little on Google Earth. Looks like it is more like 1.1 miles or so from the end of the paved road coming from the Green Mountain Road side. Distance is about the same measured to Cecil Ashburn. It's only .39 miles hiking up the cut, though. Might be fun to do that *once*!

No I'm referring to the Tullahoma dam on the Normandy lake. Percy Priest is way north, at least 2.5 hour drive.
Dave, have you looked at the local wind conditions for the Dam. I would be up for the trip on Sunday provided there is sufficient wind.
Todd,
The wind for the dam is the same as Huntsville. SSW which is perfect.
Tullahoma is where they had the electric fun fly last year. The lake and dam is about 3 miles north of town.

Andy,
Thats a great find. Really TVA will let you walk or drive the length of the dam? If so, I'm going on the first big west wind. I'm putting in for a vacation day right now. I did see a softball field on the far western edge of the property. The only way to get to that softball field is by the dam road. Let us know just as soon as Brian tells you. To bad this Sunday is a south wind.
On a more sobering note, if those trees are really really tall, it may not be so good.
Brian, where are you?

This is a fantastic place to fly, but only for West winds. There is a guy from Atlanta's North Atlanta Soaring Assoc (NASA) who organizes the meetings. Its a 3 hour drive from Huntsville, and I've done it about 3 times. Its a great place, on par with our NW Quarry, maybe a bit better. It also support unlimited DS'g on the waters side. Thats a plus if you are interested in the truely dark side of slope soaring. It should really be called slope roaring. When you see it you will understand.
Dave
PS, if you happen to be in that neighborhood and want to visit, approach it from the Cove Rd. The other rd, (powerhouse), is blocked off at the bottom.

Ken,
I've got 3 sure fire flyers tomorrow. Todd, Larry and myself. Gary said he would try, and Don is under the weather, but he might come too. So, that's 3 for sure and 2 maybes. Are you in?
Location: With the winds predicted at 200 degrees, the best place locally is the Quarry. The bowl will work, and maybe the penensula too. The wind speed will peak at noon at 21 mph.
If we explore, we can go to Normandy Dam in Tullahoma. Its 1 hour drive, and I recommend car pooling. This wind is perfect for Normandy, maybe a bit too fast though. If you want to drive separate vehicles, then we will caravan, if you don't know the way. I'd like to leave by 11am if we go to Normandy.
The other new spot is the Power Line Cut in SE Hsv. It should fly at 200, but looking at the map, there are mountanious obsticles that might cause bumpy air.

Yup,It keeps on getting better. Today six of us were gathered at the hill thowing toy airplanes in the air, swooping and darting about the sky in all manor of fun. Needless to say, there was some intential midair contacts done, with hollering and whooping at every every turn. Not all the flying was combat related. Don Miller brought out a couple of crunchys that screamed across the sky. Don became very adept to landing those fragile airplanes. However he did have a unscheduled meeting with a tree branch that cause him some grief. The damage wasn't bad, but it will require some bench style fixing.
The biggest intential combat impact happened between Gary and myself when I climbed under his 6 and gaining altitude, I impacted his striker. It was amazing that his striker was able to fly again as the piece flew everywhere. Gary lost one fin in the woods. He taped the remaining fin on, repaired some styrofoam and off he goes wanting more combat.
Ken was probably the big winner for the day, as he was very hard to knock out of the sky. I think he did go down once, but I'll tell you he walked away from more impacts then all others.
And Gary, tell us about the trip to the bottom.
And how can I forget Larry's broken wing. I think he crashed it on the slope, and since Larry's plane didn't have a lot of strapping tape on it, well, it would be more subject to damage. This time the wing broke in two. Two complete pieces. Larry went right to work, and with some glue, strapping tape, and packing tape, Larry had his plane back in the sky to continue the fight. Then, in another combat impact, Larry lost his vertical tail, (completely lost), so he finds a 2 inch diameter tube of plastic and tapes it to the fin stick. Amazing, it flew great.
I'm forgetting something, oh yeah Gary, tell us about that trip to the deep.

You sloper guys:
Go to unique inaccessable places few have ever been.
Carry your entire workshop with you in a backpack, just in case.
Look for high winds when the rest of us are cowering inside, afraid to fly.
Crash frequently in impossible search and retrieval locations, but somehow find and bring the plane, at least most of it, home.
Have no motors and no broken props, ever.
Come down from the mountain only when it gets too dark to see.
Fly direct combat when the rest of us avoid plane-to-plane contact.
Lose plane parts, but find local suitable replacements, install them, and fly again off the cliff without the ability to test beforehand.
Brag about, er.... Enthusiasticaly Share your latest experiences.
Plot against your fellow flyers between sloping sessions.
I bet you would even wear capes and helmets, except for the reduced visibility and that the extra drag would probably throw you forceably off the other side of the mountain.
Seriously, glad you have so much fun sloping.

Dave, do I have to officially be an "LSF aspirant" or whatever they call it to log that 15 minute flight? Do I have to have the form in my possession or can you witness it and signoff when I get my form?

I would like to first go at the tasker with my Moth
But I should be able to bring both Netz and OverLord as backups.
Andy, yes you must have either the mailed out form or the email authorization from LSF stating that you are able to start your tasks.

"tasker, task, LSF..."
These are unfamiliar terms to me, might I ask as to what they pertain to? Are these kinda like cert flights or something?
