Hi all, where I work we have to have hand held UHF radios, and when you walk past the eftpos part of the cash registers the radios hiss with static. I was wondering if there was any device that would cover the radios to prevent this or something like that.

Thanks
Chris

You shold screen the EFTPOS units instead.

Put tinfoil hats on them.

There is a new device on the market called "your hand", it's fairly flexible and it can be applied to the speaker of the radio as you pass the eftpos terminal. It requires some initial setting up but once it's been used 30-40 times it will work automatically.

Otherwise an old coffee tin big enough to fit the radio in will stop the hiss ! It will limit the range a bit too and you'll look like an idiot talking into an empty coffee tin but hey, can't win em all !!!

Seriously, the eftpos terminals and their related cabling are the culprits so they need shielding.

Actually, just noticed that you are in QLD, you mean they HAVE radio in QLD ;)

Cheers,

From a s**t stirring NSW'er.

If possible you could program your handsets with CTCSS squelch.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It's not much of a problem so I won't do anything about it. Just curious.

Imeins, unfortunately "your hand" is useless when your have to pack for the cashiers but otherwise that is what I mostly use.

;) that does make it interesting, "hey lady hold the bag open properly will you, I can only use one hand."
