I will be attending this competition for Rotorworld magazine (www.rotorworld.co.uk). Any advice on good model shops which sell r/c helicopters in Taipei would be greatly appreciated! What time do the shops in Taipei open and close?

That is a good question. It realy depends where you stay, Taipei is a big city.
. There are a lot hobby shops as I know.
You can try GWS delaer, http://www.gwsus.com/english/dealer/dealer.htm
but you are better, ask the help from RCgroups (Taiwan) members here.

BTW, you may want to know ahead what hobby shop will carry your favor helicpeter "Glow fuel" needed, can't carry it on board).
Also the helicopter replacement parts (unless you fly Raptor, it is made in Taiwan). Most store don't carry a lot parts, unlike we have in US.

Thanks for the advice however I will not be taking anything to fly in Taiwan - since I will be there as a journalist my reporter's notepad and my camera gear will be my main equipment :-)

That is even easier.

If I were you, I will take the time to visit Thunder Tiger Corp. (Raptor heli) and GWS (Dragonfly e-heli). They make the popular helicopters as you know. It is good to take the chance to visit them.
I think they will treat you well for sure.

Welcome to visit Taiwan. GWS HQ would like to meet you

Most of Taiwanese hobby shop open from 11:00 till 21:00, they'll close normally on every Monday. GWS HQ office remains opened from 09:00 till 18:00 Monday thru Friday.
GWS KunYang promotion center open from 10:00 till 21:30
seven days a week. You could get there by Taipei Subway,
BanNan line, get off at KunYang station. This GWS center
is located at the side of this station, just 300 ft west away
from it. Tel. 2654-7090.

first day is ok. A little party sunny.

It went smooth.

Today is 2nd day. Now it is rainning hard.

currently take break due to heavy rain.

First round of competition was held on this afternoon. However, it's been interrupted because of rain. The rest of this round will be
continued from 10:00 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (April 7th).
Second round of competition will be held on 13:00 same day.
