I'm sure this has been discussed in the past but I couldn't find it.

I am starting construction on a Dumas Chris Craft Express Cruiser with Balsa and Mahogony parts. The instructions state an epoxy is recommended. Can you experts give me your recommended brand and source of supply?

I'd like to do this right and I appreciate your help in getting started.

Your local hobby shop (LHS) will an assortment of epoxy's to choose from. They may be a store type brand, the stores label on it or a brand name like Devcon. They come in a variety of cure times from as little of 5 minutes to as much as 2 hours. If you have never used epoxy before I would suggest starting with a 10 to 15 min. cure time, that will give you plenty of time to mix, position and clamp parts together. As you get used to it then you can move on up to the faster ones. The slowest ones are used for asbolute maximum strength and where ther are a lot of parts to be positioned and secured at once.

As liquid epoxy ages it turns to an amber color, the clearer it is, the fresher it is. Epoxy goes a long way, unless you are building a large boat you won't need the 9 oz. size. You could get away with the next size down.

If your LHS doesn't stock the epoxy's then they can be found thru major hobby distributors. Stay away from the hardware store double cartridge epoxys, they can be more confusing due to the various types and claims.

Thanks, Green Boat! I'm stuck in a rather rual Georgia town (not much Hobby-ing going on) but if I can't make to a hobby shop, I'll just order it on line. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
