That is amazing! Dont completely understand all the technicalities or how you are going to control it, but interesting. I've wondered what size stator is found in the smallest fans like on graphics cards and if these could be converted.

But unfortunately most fans especially in consumer applications are 1 phase
reluctancy supplied motors - not to be used with the sensorless 3 phase
electronics it is in principle possible to equipe the Rotor with NdFeB but the reluctancy/ cogging has to be decreased - what means you will have to change the shape of the stator and you can only use slot numbers that are able to be devided by 3 - so perhaps you may do a 3Slot 2Pole or a 6 Slot 8Pole or 4Pole mainly more for highspeed applications - and the rotors material has to be much stronger because of the low amount of poles...to prevent from saturation. So better to use a 9 pole cdrom for more torque than to slaughter those fans...
