I own a JR 9X2 (basically an European version of 9303). What kind of cable is needed in order to use FMS (or maybe I could pay for ClearView, but I think it has the possibility to use the same cable)?

I've tried searching the net for details on the trainer socket fitted to the TX (Nice TX by the way :) ) but can't see a decent image. Chances are it will use either a mono or stereo 3.5mm jack socket (check the manual for the accessories, and look at the end of the "trainer" lead).
Once you have that you will need to set the TX to PPM mode and not PCM. You will then need to obtain an interface to plug in between the TX and PC, which for FMS and Clearview can be a a simple PIC SERIAL type interface, or you could opt for a USB interface that emulates a standard "Windows Joystick" and thus would work with other software as well as FMS / Clearview

I asked MacGregor, and they told me that:
"The DSC socket needs a 3.5mm Jack plug (mono). Outer is ground - tip is signal. Tx must be in PPM mode for all simulators."
Mono plug it is then.

That's insane! All US and, at least, Australian JR use an opposite wiring--base is signal and tip is ground. Why would they change it in European version???

Boris,
As far as I'm awear the tip has always been the signal, with the shaft being GND. - Most of the sites that have details of various buddy leads / port show the tip as being the signal too

http://www.rc-electronics.co.uk/buddy2.htm
http://myweb.absa.co.za/eric.brouwer/radio_connections.htm
http://www.mftech.de/buchsen_en.htm
To name a few.
However that said there is one 3.5mm stereo plug that has the tip as GND and ring as the signal, and this was for Lexors Nova 4, Nova 6 transmitters.

Malc,
I've owned a number of JR transmitters (still own Quattro) and used differents interfaces--they all had signal at the base.
Also, my wife runs milehighwings.com and she sells, among others, JR interfaces to all ower the world. 3.5mm Mono plugs in all our interfaces are soldered "base=signal, tip=ground" and we have yet to run into problem with this!

JR transmitters use a capacitively coupled signal. Unless the interface is poorly designed and relies on a particular mark/space polarity it makes very little difference which connection is which.

That would explain why my home made interface works with my JR X3810 with the signal connected to the tip.
Thank for clearing this up Steve ;)
