Anyone have experience or know about Bowman's Hobbies Javelin thermal epp sailplane? I would like to find out how it flies, etc.

I would be curious to see if it will handle a DL take off. It would make a good starter DLG glider if the tail will hold up.

I was impressed with mine. It flies ok for HL for its weight. As a light lift sloper it is great. I also made a V-tail version. I am sure it would be great for thermal. Build as light as you can! Have fun.

I have a 2nd hand Javelin. It's my first glider after learning how to fly on a 3 channel T-hawk park flyer. The Javelin been a blast to learn on and I've pounded it quite hard a number of times into the ground and it still holds up. I was a bit concerned about the balsa tail section, but it never gets damaged in any of my crashes. I use mine for slope soaring. If I add 2 oz of balast to the 18 oz glider it handles quite nicely in the stiff winds we get off the water.

Now if I could only learn how to do a flawless roll or even beter inverted flight.

I've had a Javelin for quite a while, it's now my rough duty, lift checking plane. It's waaaaay too heavy for handlaunch, but great for light lift slope or thermal flying. Mine has Hs55's all around, have had a few servo issues, no big deal. Also, the balsa sub trailing edge spar should be replaced with basswood or spruce, mine has broken a few times at the wing tips. As for DLG launch, I think securing the peg would be more of an issue than the tail blowing off. As for rolls and control issue, a little rudder-aileron mix works wonders. It's a great value for what it is. Chris
