Considering Patmat's comments on the pump unit, I have removed it in favor of a fuel pump for model aircraft. I might just leave it out for the moment though until I devise a electronic way to activate the pump via the reciever or with a servo. It is also tempting to put a better 380 motor in the original's place. I Like that mount, though I would be concerned about heat from the motor.

The cool thing about this boat is that it has lot of room to place your radio equipment anywhere you wish. Here the reciever gets a foward birth and the ESC also avoids steerage. I ran the cables to the engine room via new holes made with a uni-bit.

For the moment, I'm using the existing battery tray as supplied with the Hen Long tug. I am also using Patmat's idea of installing a terminal to link everything cleanly. I like neat R/C installations. I intend to use a 6v 4 amp sealed battery as in the UK article for power. To find one cheap, go to to your local home improvement store and look for emergency lighting kits. The batteries are spares for them. I have priced them as low as $11.00 and as high as $18.00.

The first phase of the mod is now complete. The stickers where removed with smoke oil (lamp oil works too), and the boat got a navalizing coat of grey. Bath tub test with the 7.2 stick shows this tug will really move, though I doubt it will ever see the high end of the throttle in actual pratice. As the months march on. I'll add the monitor pump, lights and other features.

Are you talking about a bilge pump, or a cooling pump? If your talking about a cooling pump, I'm stymied as to how to get this one in my Darby to work. I didnt build the boat to that point, and the late builder didnt supply a schematic . Someone suggested removing all leads to the reciever and using process of elimination, but I JUST got independent motor control, and dont want to screw things up. Guess I'm scared to mess it all up. He didnt build the access to the reciever very user friendly!!
Gotta get a handle on it before next July in Toledo. Gotta make a better showing than the Canton Regatta. All I heard there was " Look at the crazy Canuck, wreckin the Barge Tow Course" This, of course was without Bow Thruster control, and tangled in the Tow-Line. Remember to NEVER back up when towing a Barge!! It WAS my first time, though.

bl cooling fans(comp) can be had fairly cheap...ya got to know where to look. one source is comp repair shops(ask for used ones, that'll get a funny look), nother source is the dump/recycling center(this should be a good time to grab some, also round june) minor quibble they need 9-14vdc(14v may be pushing it tho, they are only rated to 12v). OTOH a 15-$20 fan may be a cheap investment(Elroy guess you missed the fancy fans w/leds :))

The pump in question is a little piston unit that squirts (a little) water out the fire monitor. I replaced mine with an windshield washer unit... lots of amps, but not too spectacular in output. I've seen electric fuel pumps (model plane stuff) used for this- they seem smaller, with great output. That's what I'd do next time!
