I got the Imex Tampa and the Revell Hawaiian Pilot.

My son made out big, with the Paasche air brush kit, Imex Bahrain and Academy 1/400 Titanic.

The Titanic is a fine model, no flash, the tiny handrails and other parts are extremely well produced. State of the art, I would say for plastic. A nice model.

I also got some books on boatbuilding. tt

I don't know what I did this year for Mrs. Santa to be so good to me. (If I knew I'd make a DVD and become the new Tony Robbin's). Under the tree for me was

4..... yep..... FOUR kits.

Dumas - The Rangely

Billing boats - African Queen

Billing boats - Boulougne Etaples

KnK (an old kit) - Cabin Cruiser

plus $80 in gift certificates at the LHS.

Wow......... lots of workbench time coming up.

a very thankful

Well, afc, we're all just real happy for ya.
With Christmas, and birthday yesterday, and reasonably acceptable behavior this last year, Santa saw fit to leave a Sterling C-C 63' Motor Yacht at this address. The usual story - once apparently completed, now somewhat incomplete, slightly battered, poorly stored, wood dried out, motor removed. But the potential is still there; it has an apparently 'true' hull, solidly constructed, stuffing tube/shaft/prop in place, smallish rudder installed, holes for portholes cut, removable cabin structure well assembled and primed, most metal fittings present. All considered, lots of work to be done, but the price was about right.
The installed prop is a bronze(?), two inch diameter, fairly deep pitch three-blade one. My Pittman Boatmaster electric motor fits right on the two motor mount beams and lines up with the Dumas universal mount on the upper end of the prop shaft. This leads me to believe that that type of motor, or something similar, was used to power this boat. Can someone tell me if a Boatmaster motor would be suitable to directly drive this prop? For what it's worth, the Boatmaster motor's diameter is just about exactly the diameter of the propeller. Also, would a 6 or a 12 volt motor be more suitable in this application? The new motor that I have is a 6 volt one. Incidentally, the boat is 40 inches long, and has a 10 1/4 inch beam.
It occurs to me that the process of refurbishing this boat would make an interesting build(rebuild) thread. However, at this time I definitely lack the necessary skills and experience that it deserves. So, I'll proceed on my smaller, 'learner' Chris-Craft boat for now.
A very good 2006 to you all -
Bill
