I'm a R/C model aircraft (electric) freek but am looking to branch out into model boats, mainly so that I will have "something to fiddle with" when strong winds keep my planes grounded. I have plenty of experience of building aircraft kits from balsa, f/glass, plastic and foam, but none with boats. Can anyone suggest a reasonably complete kit for electric power I could start with, which wouldn't take months to build and doesn't look like a plastic toy?
I'm interested in PT, MGB, MTB, FPB and ASR boats, and have started to look at info from Deans, Fleetscale and Robbe. I'll also be contacting my local model boat club.
Any recommendations and tips most welcome.

Hi!
Since you are in the UK you might want to pick up a copy of 'Marine Modelling International' It has a few good suppliers listed. I have a Robbe Lehmar 1000-P15 and it is a well made kit. I am about to embark on it's construction.
Graupner seems to have some interesting hulls also but I do not think they have craft in the 'patrol' type you seem to like. I would avoid Dumas kits unless you really like making wood fit.
Cheers,

Hi Mike,
Many thanks for the quick response! I've bought a copy of 'MMI' today (!) and this should help me with my decision-making. Also, I've discovered that there is a model boat show this coming weekend at a local marina. Two happy coincidences.
