Hi! Nah I don't think so. Winds are dead today. Doubt there'll be any lift unless things pick up.

Do you have powered planes? I'll probably take my heli for a fly at Kronendal later today...

Hey guys, also a Capetonian here. What sites do you currently fly at? I fly power planes (.60 size), helicopters and also love my sloping, but there are sometimes very few places I know about to fly at, which decreases my flying days. So, if you guys could give me a few more sites, that would be great. I currently fly from Signal Hill, and used to fly power at CRF, but am no longer a member. So now I fly my power at my farm near Hermanus.
Chat soon,
J

Both me and aragon are in Hout Bay, so slope flying is best on Chappies or Llandudno, unless driving a long ways isn't a hassle.
For a big list of flying sites, take a look at http://atlanticfc.org.za . Also get on the Yahoo! SARFLY list, a lot of announcements are made there. If you are near Hermanus, and a SE is blowing, try flying off of the hill with the cell tower. The lift is awsome there.

Hi guys, I'm still in SA, Eastern Province, PE :D
Anyone know who distributes Multiplex RC models in SA? Having a rough time finding a Multiplex Easy Star. I'm keen to Slope with it.

Hey guys. I have an MPX EasyGlider. Got mine from Peter Hinz of Cerebus (http://www.cerebus.co.za/). Nice plane. Just wish it were made of EPP.

Went flying up on Racetrack Rd (I think that's what it's called) above Hout Bay. It's where the sand dunes are, looking down over Sandy Bay. There wasn't a ton of wind/lift, but it was enough to fly continuous loops with my Blur III. Only about a 10 min walk from the parking lot, along gravel road. About 5 mins from the top of the 'pass' along the road on the left. Walk until the bushes clear, the lift is sometimes quite far out.

I flew there a few weeks ago. Not bad lift. I think it's possible to DS there too. You shoulda called me and I'd have joined you. ;)
It's possible to slope the SE there too if you walk a bit further up overlooking Sol Kerzner's land.

Yeah, there was quite a bit of lift considering how much wind there was.I actually met another sloper up there, his first time up there too.
I didn't have your number on me, or I would've.

Hey minifly
I remember that spot from way, way back in the '80's when there was no housing estate on the dunes - there used to be a wooden ramp there that was used by hang gliders (well, mainly by their pilots............ ). Access was real difficult then - I used to get there by beach buggy.
Apart from my old Sandy Bay days, I also worked for the town planning consultants who designed the housing estate there for ABSA banks' development section :o . What a nightmare, glad I'm outa all that now!
Cheers
:) Chris

I used to get across to sandy bay by 4x4 too, back in the day. Even though you can't take one on the dunes anymore, the development there now means there is a road reaching almost the top of the dunes. Not too bad. :)
Then again, going to sandy bay is the last thing I'd want to do these days.

Whoops, logged on with my brothers account. Drusky here,
Thanks for the link aragon, Peter says he will have a shipment of Easystars coming in 2 months time :sigh: Price isn't bad... said they went for around R600 last time he had them.
The reason for my interest stems from a very nice video of a a guy (Markjayne I think) Sloping the EZ in Wales. www.rcflights.co.uk ....Beautiful
Of course the durable EPP wings are very attractive to me... Might end up getting it in from Towerhobbies. Works out at R400, I'd like to get spare wings and some GWS biplane slope models. The $160 ups postage makes me cringe. Gets here in 6 days though. Unfortunately customs held my last order for 9 days and they damaged the blasted foam model during their inspections :grr:

Is it getting pretty rough down on Sandy Bay now?

Well, the weather's pretty nasty at the moment ;) but other than that, it seems to still be a pretty 'safe' area...you want to watch out for the area around The Sentinal, lots of druggies etc. in the bushes

I wouldn't say Sandy Bay is rough or dangerous, but from what I've heard you don't really want to venture there if you're a hetro male. ;)
minifly, dang, yesterday would have been perfect at signals if not for the fog. I went up there twice to have a peak. Was very tempted to toss a plane off...

I took a bit of video, but don't think there's anything special on it. I was too busy DS'ing to film :D
