In January at the A.M.A. show in Ontario Calif. my friend Bob and I will be in attendance and answering questions about getting your plans converted into laser cut wood shapes. Although mainly we have been cutting for the model aircraft guys, we also have been doing such quietly for boaters.
A mention was made in the Gas boat forum as to capabilities and past projects. If you have a need for a reproduction of a former kit (I have slowly been doing the Berkeley line-up of boats) the overall project is not as expensive as it was in the past. 'certainly less than buying an old model kit from an internet vendor two times zones away from home. However, there is one explaination needed first, in that we are no Kit Guessers, and cannot figure out exact shape of parts without them being shown or having old parts in hand. If the general shape to the part is not known, then we do not guess, but instead simply return your materials. Autocad cannot guess all the shapes involved here sometimes.
Generally there is a three kit minimum, more so due to postal rates, stocking of wood, than time involved. And yes, the wood gets tabbed and slotted to fit the currently available (and measured) flat wood stock.

I'd be interested to know which boats you have done and choose from your list .

Just for reference, you can go to the PAST PROJECTS web page at: http://www.mybloo.com/coosbay/laser/laser.html, and see what is still on the hard drive or tape drive someplace. Mostly A/C, but the boats noted in gas forum are listed there too.
My old timey interest is in Berkeley boats, and I have all their noted scale plans and some of their kits. Couple of the C-C boats are on the hard drive, not noted are their C-C Cobra and the Air-Sea Rescue boat like what was on Mc'Hale's Navy as PT 73.
If you are familiar with Kay Tillman, he will be at the A.M.A. event also, over near the indoor pond. Did a couple of the 1930 Flier for him during the summer and he may have it going. The enlarged C-C Sedan (from a Dumas plan) may or may not be finished in time to show off.

I'm going to the AMA show. What is your booth number, and what is your business name? I will look for you.

Here's another fellow that has a machine. Seen his work - amazing detail.

Sorry fellows as if this is disjointed. But have five model aircraft, two boats and a caboose on the hard drive all 7/8ths finished. The customers are trying to build prototypes fast as they can for release in the spring of 2006, looking for omitted parts, incorporating changes, all of which hit here about Thanksgiving, an unusual time. Am presently working up parts for customer on a model from plans and many of the former parts are wider than the overall width of the model, and he is having a hard time understanding that the plans were badly drawn. You know, the first thing everyone mentions is that the parts do not fit (the plan).

I work with Bob Holman and the space numbers for the convention have yet to be assigned. At the 2005 event we were in booth 107, well away from the entrance doors. The assigned area for 2006 is not known for the A.M.A. will send out exhibitors badges and space assignments about two weeks before the convention. Usually do not get in on Friday until about 10AM, and Sunday about noon. I only live twenty minutes away, but rarely show up on Saturday because the crowds are just too large. I am really walking the floor right after these noted times with a black plastic pouch under my arm containing samples and dealer brochures, for I need to arrange future work, obtain CAD files from vendors so that their product can get specified on a plan also. I thus pop in, back and forth every 20 minutes to 1/2 hour and check in for visitors, and is best to wist there (where ever that is going to be this year).
Mike:
Am familiar with the machine shown in the picture. If I am not mistaken, it has overall size limitations, the Kern which is used here has a table area of 24 inches by 48 inches. On common aircraft stripwood of 3 or 4 inches wide, it runs a splitter, enabling two pieces to be cut a same time off one file. No repeats. The Giant Telemasters were cut with this device in place to trim the overall time factor down, and thus cut the cutting costs too. The machine you have pictured does not permit such a device to be installed.
I do not want to get specific here, but for others with questions or expressing an interest, please tap the e:mail box on page one of the web site, or leave a PM here. Other than the previously noted, tug by Harbor Models, my customers have not given permission to post pictures of semi- or completed models. Mainly, as I do not own one of those digital cameras. Pictures come as whenever the neighbor has their kid bring one over into my place and then able to snap a frame. At this time, there are only pictures of original kits available for posting, like that for the C-C 22. And, please be aware, as I am not fast, for there are several long time customers trying to meet theirown scheduling and I have to bend towards them. Your (new) work will take a few weeks to get into the scheduling. A project started now, would not be shipped until about middle to late January.
