I tell ya, it's just as much fun building them as it is flying them. Also, I think I want to put landing gear on my new birds. It's a lot of fun taking off and landing too. LOL

Guess that's it. Speaking of landing gear. I picked up a set of the micro retracts from GWS. Anyone have experience with these in a model? I take it that the GWS Mustang is the only one that really is meant to have them as they specifiy 4-5 channels. Just wondering.

Hi everyone, My name is Greg and I'm ... addicted to R/C airplanes and everything about them including these forums. There I said it.
I live in Gibsons B.C. (remember the Beachcombers?)
42, 2 teenagers (neither of which are into R/C), 1 wife. When she says 'goodnight, have fun' it usually means I'd better come to bed
Started out glider guiding about 8 years ago. Have an Electra converted to Highstart launch, and a custom job with 100" Windfree wings handed down from a friend.
Bought the GWS Beaver back in '02 and haven't done much gliding since. Now also have a Parkflyer Pete, a Spirit of St. Louis converted from a Guillows kit, a destroyed SE5 scratch built from meattrays and soda straws. A GWS - DC3/C47 I got for Christmas is in progress. Dreaming of an Avro Arrow - one day.

Hi GGTRONIC
Bororin (Montreal)

A friend and I we fly foamies and a slow stick... Usually we fly at park Kent near CDN area or in the south shore (There is a park in front of the ST lambert ecluses) Sometimes is pretty windy there. Where do you usually fly?... we are looking for a indoor arena or something like that... just finished a foamie biplane and I am dying to fly it. But it has been pretty windy lately.

Even though I enjoy building, I enjoy flying much more so I fly mostly foamies. I wish they sold FFF in Canada.
One interesting thing I do is run a site called the EFlight Wiki (www.eflightwiki.com (http://www.eflightwiki.com/)) It's a great place to post documentation related to electric RC flying. Have a look, I'd encourage anyone to help contribute.
One of the things I'd like to try is combat (cut the streamer type). If anyone is in the area and wants to give it a try let me know. I'm thinking of a platform like (http://www.depronlasercutting.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=12&products_id=46) this for combat.

i fly in Boucherville , in a small park , thats
what i like about electric , no noise ,
no danger.... quiet :)
has try the PARK SHARK , its excellent for
slow flight ! The TIPSY is too fast for me...
More hard to handle .
i'm actually building a pulling type of SHARK
http://ggtronic.dyndns.org/~ggtronic/1_avion/twin%20shark.wmv
Hey that is a pretty cool plane... What type of motor are you using???
Usually we fly at the parks in downtown or if it is a really nice day we go to a park in the south shore that is in front of the st lambert's locks. It is a soccerfield that is usually empty.
We fly slowstick and a foamie that is quite radical that we called "The door" we found the plans on the web and it flies pretty cool...
I will send you the plans attached here...
Hope to see you flying one day... Hopefully summer will be here soon... And with it a lot of sunny no windy days!!!
Bororin.

Hi,I live in Banff Alberta.
I've already scratch built six Avro Arrows (pusher prop) 1/25th scale
foamy models.
Have you had any problems banking to the right with the Arrow?

Hi Bororin,
Nice job on that ESPA3D. I built one a while back out of depron, it's been since retired. Do you have a spar in the wing? I didn't have one in mine and the wings flexed like mad.
Good luck with your maiden flight.
Leon.

Thanks Leon.
It was windy and this is radical plane so I flew only 2 packs but it was really nice... Looking forward to a nice summer day.
Instead of a spar I put a lot of tape... that holds it together without increasing weight...

Hi all
Name: Aaron Redman
Location: Fredericton N.B
Age: 28
Married
1 child
Flying for 15 years
Many glow aircraft 10, 2 Discus hand launch gliders.
Mostly fly gliders now, only two minutes from home and always a challange to hook the big one. Still love powerd flight though, just not enough time to make it to the club field these days.

Are you aware of the Canadian rule that all Canadian pilots must have at least one flying wing or delta and preferrably the Avro Arrow. :D
Ol Fella. Your just a baby. Old is defined as over the age where you can't fly anymore. :D :D

I had all kinds of problems flying my 1/25th scale Avro Arrow.
I'm pretty sure that it was the new airfoil design that I tried out.
However my 5th Avro Arrow had no problem with the right turns.
I'm using only elevon controls (using a rudder/elevator mixer).
On my 1/20th scale I'm going to actually impliment a little rudder control surface due to the location of the arrows CG.
Having 2 - Electric duct fans beside each other on my next plane should present some interesting torquing features that I hope ,will not be as much as my pusher prop planes.

Just a caution on the rudder throw you use. The rudder deflection is quite sensitive and will create an immediate roll. Suggest using exponential on the rudder until your at altitude.

Canadian rule is Avro Arrow first, flying boat second. We have to show our true colours.
I have the Arrows and other wings so I can buy Miss Hyperion. That is a good looking machine.
There is a young Canadian fellow in RC Groups that is selling Arrow kits that are excellent kits. He needs support.

Jack,
I would go with the Miss Hangar One from Red. It's got the best reviews, it's the original and was not rushed to production. And heck, he had the idea originally, so it's probably best to give him your business... JM2C

Hi All,
Not too much time to write lately. Registered some days ago but as I said...
Location: Montreal
Wings: Slow Stick (2nd) and ESPAD (lost count)
Married, 1 toddler (lots of fun)
Just slowly converting to Lipo and brushless. Just changing to Lipo was a big leap, hopefully the change to brushless is going to give as much satisfaction as Lipo. I just felt to attached to the ground before, like if gravity afected my plane much more than to the rest of us.
Nice reading you all.

Jeez guys your persistant,
Actually I spent 8 years working on the English cousin the Avro Vulcan, what a great machine that was... designed to fly just under the speed of sound ..
Boy could that ever fly, hard on the Kidneys tho, it flew about 660Kts at sea level, wish some1 had a kit for that baby.

It is my own design.
The wings are EPP foam that I hot wired and then covered with a tissue paper that has strength and elastic characteristics. My wife had bought it as wrapping paper and I grabbed it.
The fuselage is shaped foam glass clothed.
This is a video of it flying.
There is a second video in the same gallery.
http://rcgroups.com/gallery/showpho...&cat=500&page=1
The Vulcan was flying with a Speed 400 in the video.
Since my son took the videos I have upgraded the motor to a Komodo 283.
The Vulcan is an excellent flyer.
If you want the plans and construction photos just send me an email.

Holy smokes, did the cameraman survive the launch in that first picture?
Nice looking plane. I love deltas, fast enough, simple design, stable in the air and very few extremities to be snapped off by unscheduled landings.
Do you have a local (ie in Canada) source for EPP?
(BTW, the video did not work for me)
Leon.

It is a very smooth flying airplane. I have been flying it for 3 years now.
I may build another one just to get the weight down. At 26 oz it is still heavier than it should be.
Next time I will use 1.3 lb density styrofoam rather than EPP foam.
The wingspan is 36 inch.

I lived in Cambridge in the '80's' Was a member of the club that had a field on HWY8. Is that still there? I tried to learn to fly, but nobody really wanted to teach then. Crashed my trainer and fixed it several times before giving up for almost 20 years, then got back into it with electrics.

Hey SteveO,
I had one of those Cox planes too! My parents got it for me from Canadian Tire, it was a Boxing Day sale, I never got mine to run for more than a few seconds at a time. I never figured it out. Like you I picked up the hobby many years later. I started to fly about 2 years ago (I'm 41 now).
I fly all electric in the school yard behind my house. I get together with Corey (aka The Enemy) evey now and then. You're not too far from Guelph if you're interested you could join us some time. PM me for the details.

Hi Cass
I had the same experience back in the early 80's with a sail plane glider club north of T.O. I too gave up and put it aside for 20 years.
what do you fly now a days?
