I often see reference in these fora to boat recovery, with responses ranging from a tennis ball on a length of string to purpose designed recovery vessels. However, I think I have cracked it!

My boats have attached to them a very long length of string wound onto a drum mounted at my feet, on shore and payed out as my boat sails away. My prop is suitably shrouded to prevent engaging the string as it trails behind. So as not to spoil the illusion, the string is weighted at intervals with small, lead weights causing it to sink below the surface. This also avoids complaints from fellow club members sailing at the same time who fear their props may become entagled.

If I suffer a beakdown I just haul in the string, easy!

By the way "Merry Christmas all".....or should that be "1st. April"? :D
