Many years ago I met a fellow back east named Bob Champagne and after some corespondence, he offered to build me a 2 meter Westons Magic. I was just down going through the basement and found the plane and I thought someone might be interested in it. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow. It has a glass and kevlar fuse with nose cone and glass bagged wings. A little dinged up but when it was flying it flew great!!!

I'll get some pics and figure out a price.

Any idea on what the price is going to be?

The plane at present has no servos (originally had all Futaba 131s) and I can't find the wing rod but it was a straight piece of steel. I'd say $150 plus shipping. High aspect wing and full flying t-tail. Pictures tomorrow. It was a great plane. I carried with me while I traveled for work (touring audio engineer) and I still have the rifle case to carry it.

Belouder;

Bob Champine was a club-member in the Tidewater Model Soaring Society (my club) for years. His widow still gets an invite to our annual Christmas Party.

Several members teamed with Bob to build sailplanes, and amongst them Champine-built aircraft are items of nostalgic importance.

Where I'm going with this is that I'll post an announcement on our club forum and see if someone isn't interested, just in case Little Flyer is not the new owner.

This appears to be one of the prototypical airplanes produced by Frank Weston and collaberating others back when Frank was experimenting/refining the composite techniques later marketed/produced in kits by Weston Aerodesign Co (WACO). The earliest "Magics" were "T" tails (with interesting pull-pull controls using Kevlar thread), and I vaguely recall Frank having one about 2M in size. Good Lift!

I was finally able to find time amongst decorating the house (honey-do list) and basement remodel (hence pictures of the plane in the kitchen) to get some pics of the plane. Again, a beat worse for wear and unfortunately repairs made in hotel rooms (I traveled extensively with this plane!!) but she flew very well. You had to keep her moving really fast as those high aspect ratio wings would snap roll if you slowed down to much!!! (that's what all the dings are from).

I met Bob while flying a Comano in the parking lot of a venue we were doing a show at. He happened to be driving by. We spoke and I ended up over at his house the next day. That guy should have a book written about him. Test pilot for various "agencies" of the govt., first LSF Level10 recipient, and a really really nice guy. He sent me this plane when I was still on the road and it was beautiful.

I think it would have a great home with D Ryans club because it also has other value for them, that being said I was just curious on the price.

Bob was the 4th man break the speed of sound flying the X-1.

Flew the Douglas D558-2 mach 2.

Pulled 18 gees in the Mercury capsule's couch, a record at the time, (some one later was to pull 20 gees).

Got a job with NACA as test pilot, was told he would test fly a heli the next day, taught himself to fly helis that night by reading the heli's manual.

Test flew a early Harrier, while hovering people where waving to him, he waved back. They where trying to tell him not to hover more than 60 seconds or he'd melt the tires. He really stuck his landing. :) :) :)

Hated Chuck Yeager, I guess we all have egos!
